He is using the engine at the last moment to arrest his rate of descent and keep from a landing that would certainly cause damage. For much less money you can have a single seat Helicycle that will take off and land at 10k density altitude or have a decent turbo Bell 47 that would work also.
Neat plane, but for $100k it isn't much plane. Duly noted. I'll start my search for that Helicycle. That makes sense.

If you could get Andrea a second job, you could have one of these and doll up your A36 for longer trips.
It is good to have a woman support you in a manner you would like to be accustomed to.
Good luck.

Can't take anyone with you in the Helicycle. . and the Bell is certified. .
Here's my requirements list: tandem seating, can burn 92 octane or less, 100MPH with 29" tires or floats, dual doors. I think there's an S7 in my future. . if only just a kit.
The problem with this particular setup, Mike, is that it's SLOW as molasses. Like 80MPH slow. Even for a rotax powered experimental, that's pretty damn slow. And will you truly ever NEED that gear? Why not slap the Roberts STOL gear on it, save the speed (or mount some sweet 29" Airstreaks)
The Rotax engines have come a LONG way since the 2 stroke 58X series.
These new 4 stroke engines are really interesting and have quite the following. Hell, some are even fuel injected at the factory now.
