Jesse,
I have read this thread with particular interest because I now believe a c340,414 or 421 is in my future. The Baron simply can not do my missions. Shame. Love the fit and finish of my Bo and the way it handles but need more room and ul for next plane.
Very worried about old airframe and increased annual costs associated with these older but proven planes.
Spoke with Robert Johnson today and got plenty of useful info. Would love the opportunity to talk with you and others with experience with these planes.
If you or others are so inclined, I welcome a pm to me with your phone #s.
Thanks.
Mark

Hi Mark, I'm sure Jesse can answer all your questions but if you want more opinions I have two friends with 421's that would be happy to discuss them. PM me and I'll refer you.

But landing and take off its a different plane in the best way. It can take off about the same my A36 mid weight loaded. It does land a little longer than the A36.
They do burn some gas but you get a lot of machine for it. Every time I have thought about upgrading to another plane I do a long Mexico, Alaska, US trip and all the stuff I can put in that plane including my CR500 dirtbike and I say why?
Rocky Are you serious about getting a CR500 in there? send us a picture! We did a pre-buy on a 414 with R-Stol and ended up not buying for other external factors, it was the smartest plane for our mission (7-8 people 250NM each way to the farm with grass strip of 2600ft). Loving this thread by the way!

For the most part is I only keep four seats in the plane, pilot, copilot and the next ones facing backwards. The reason for that is we have futons and comforters in the plane so as soon as we take off my wife and daughter like to sleep in the back. So when I bring my CR to Baja I take off the handlebars and rear wheel and front forks. Forks and front wheel go in the front baggage. It takes about 30 minutes, then wrap it in plastic shipping wrap. I have done it about 6 times. Now what I did was just get a Service Honda 500 and just keep it down in Baja. Now I have more room for my remote control gliders!
Rocky I love it that you plan your plane around your toys!!! Let them family sleep however they can! cheers!
