I concur re: CPA/cessna.org ... Death Spiral of Mgt Neglect
Several times I requested 337 info from Hq. Said they did not
have what I sought.
I scrounged and found it on my own. I forwarded courtesy
copies to them; and they groused that I was cluttering their
inbox with info they already have on-file.
+1 on the CFO for Cardinals, absolutely great info, but last time I checked, their "forum" system is along the lines of a moderated email chain circa 1994, same as the "Beechlist" if any of you guys subscribe to that.
On that same topic, the number one key issue on any Cardinal would be to check the carry through spar. Only if it checks out good would I bother with the rest of the pre-buy. Owners balk because you have to pull the headliner, and so there is a non-zero chance of breaking headliner components, but if they won't let you do it, I'd walk away. Replacement of a carry through spar was a 15k job 8 years ago, and that's IF you can find a serviceable center section.
Up next would be the gear mechanism on RGs. Replacement parts (actuators, saddles, swivel fittings, etc.) are fearsomely expensive.
Best,
Rich
