I want to install a camera alongside my shared driveway at a place that's about 700 ft from my house. I've had several instances where someone has dumped their trash there and would like to be able to see license plate #s as well as any people getting out of vehicles.
I tried putting a battery operated cellular game camera there but at night license plates are way to over exposed, appearing as a white blob so I need a camera with better exposure control than that. The area is covered with fairly dense trees and underbrush so getting a wifi signal through to a camera is going to be tough.
There is a 60 ft antenna tower about halfway between the house and the desired camera location and I already have what is essentially 3 pair UTP cable running from the house to the tower. Using that I thought I might be able to use that for low bandwidth Ethernet and power for a Wifi Access point with a high gain antenna up on the tower but I'd need to test that to see if a WiFi camera would get through the 450 feet of trees between the camera and tower.
Alternately I could run some outdoor (buriable) Cat 6 from the tower to the camera with it just lying on the ground. That would allow me to power the camera from the house. I doubt that solar power would work because of all the trees.
One other option would be either WiFi from the neighbor's house north of the driveway. That's about 400 ft through the trees. Either WiFi option would require something like a car battery to power the camera unless it was very low power. Charging the battery periodically would be doable but a PITA, especially in the winter.

Any suggestions for the camera or the connection?
