We used to use a bunch of these 25 years ago when we started a paintball business.
They were cheap surplus and Refs kept losing or breaking expensive walkie talkies.
The only downside is you have to string a pair of wires to each one and keep a good set of D cell batteries in them. The crank just rings the phone.
We used them to start groups on opposite ends on the woods, about a 150 yards apart.
The wire came in mile long spools and was pretty cheap.
