Bought from Apple store for $549 last summer for a trip to Ireland. Only used on that trip.
Work great and in new condition.

Only use over-the-ear headphones when traveling. My Bose case is easier to pack.
The Airpods Max fold flat and easy to slip into a backpack but I carry a small carry-on and Bose fit better.
Airpods are more comfortable bc they fit completely over my ears and they have cool features, like transparency.
I've used the Bose more, so might as well let someone else get use out of them.
