I walked out onto my upper driveway this afternoon while speaking with the plumber that had just replaced a new under counter ice maker for us. (he's a friend) What was he driving? The same Ford Lightning truck. After seeing this thread mid-morning I asked him a few questions about his new 23' model, since I noticed it still had the UPC code sticker on the lower front bumper. He said "he loved it, he got about 250 -270 miles between charges depending on weather in mid Mo. and had installed the heavy duty charger at his home (cost of around $9.00 home charge he said). He commented on how quiet it was and the ride was fantastic, he hoped he got as good as service as he had from his previous Ford trucks". He said he'd ordered it way back when they initially came out in 2021, I understood it was supposed to be in by Dec. 21' on an early 22' model. The dealer stuck with the price they had quoted him back in 2021 with all the same options for a 23' model. He stated he'd been a good customer of the Ford dealership and was happy they honored their 21' price commitment on the 23' model for him. Personally I haven't seen any other plumbers driving these trucks and am now wondering about my installation bill.

for the immediate future there might be even more demand, since ford has suspended production of these things due to battery production issues

Hello Jeff,
Not that there is a problem with existing batteries … correct? It’s my understanding is that there is a labor issue going on in what ever country it is where they mine the lithium or something that is a major component of the battery. Is this correct ?

Thanks, Frank

Hi Frank,
I'm not plugged into ford but based on what I'm seeing with our supply of similar batteries, that is plausible

I think you are about 9 months too late, but good luck.

I think the bloom is off the rose for the flippers such as this, but good luck.
At least the tax credit should soften the blow a bit for you!

The Rivian is FAST … very very FAST. They offer an 800 HP version, but have you drove or ridden in one of them? There is a reason why you can easily find them … and why they cost as little as they do. If you would have any interest in one with 11,000 miles on it I know where one is at. He was asking $46K for it, but that was a couple of months ago so it might be cheaper now and I see it’s still setting in his garage when I drive up the street.

Thanks, Frank

For $46,000, you should buy it from him and flip it on Cars and Bids, where not a single R1T has gone for less than $82,555.

And then send me a mere 10%.

How could you have bought a 2023 Lightning 9 months ago? They didn’t deliver the first ones until Jan 2023 if I understand correctly. I have a fairly close offer … but if it doesn’t get a little closer it will become one of our drivers. Luckily it won’t make me or break me either way … and it won’t hurt the other half’s feeling if it doesn’t sell because she likes driving the truck.

Thanks, Frank

I got several PM’s about the Rivian so I reached out to the owner and it did in fact sell and is just waiting for export paperwork. Evidently it’s not easy to export an American made vehicle. He didn’t say how much it sold for … and I didn’t ask but obviously I missed the boat by not buying it when he was in the mood to dump it! It’s not the first time I have missed a steal … and probably won’t be the last.

Thanks, Frank

Actually the first deliveries of the Lightening were in May 2022.
The 2022’s are considered more valuable at this point however as the 2023 models have some deleted features such as the heated steering wheel and the bed scales (chip shortage).

You might want to check out https://bringatrailer.com/ford/f-150-li ... -electric/ to get a better sense of the market. 2022 Platinum earlier this month bid to just over 80k but didn’t sell (well below MSRP).

If you have an offer anywhere close to your asking you should take your money and run!

According to Ford they shipped a total of 15,167 2022 models. In January they shipped a total of 2,264 2023 models. And there is actually 4 omits due to chip shortages including the two that you mentioned. The dealer that I purchased it from offered me $114,968 for the truck prior to me adding the 100K mile warranty for just under $8,000. I appreciate your financial advice and sometimes I should probably listen and take other peoples advice ….. but like I said I really don’t care if I sell it or not. $117,500 would convince me to sell it but like I said, the other half likes it and if she wasn’t already vehicle poor I wouldn’t be offering it for sell. I guess that I am lucky that I have just over 12,000 sq ft of space just to park big boy toys, but her toys are starting to outnumber mine in quantity … thank goodness not is cost. I hope that she never starts collecting anything with wings or rotor blades. If she does … I will probably need to find a real job.

Thanks, Frank

Thread drift I know, but be careful with those under counter ice makers. They are the most leak and failure prone plumbing related devices out there. We have had nothing but trouble with our KitchenAid icemaker. If you have one of these make sure that you have a Flo logic or Moen flow automatic water shut off for your main if it senses a leak, because it is my opinion that with these icemakers it is not if but when.

I was/am on the list for a Lightning.
They contacted me a while ago.
They said I can still stop in any time.

I just don't have the wallet to buy,
or try my hand at a flip and be wrong.

It was an impulse thing.

Good luck to you.

Ok, I don't know much about the EV market or the support system, so please educate me. What is a "free charger"? Someone giving out electricity?

Yes, something like a grocery store or a hotel with an outlet in front of it for electric cars. They don't exist much around my neck of the woods. As electric cars get more and more popular, I expect free charging will go the way of the do-do.

Tesla occasionally offers free supercharger use. They offered unlimited free on some older model cars. They most recently came out with 10,000 miles free supercharger use as an incentive in December last year, but only for that month.
