Hi All,

I have a Delixi single phase to three phase VFD converter for sale. This unit takes a single phase 220V, 50/60 Hz input, and converts it to a three phase 0-220V, 0 to 3200 Hz output at 10A / 2200W. I bought this for a project this summer that never came to fruition, so I no longer have a need for it. This is a new unit that has never been used.

This item is spoken for!

If you don't understand what it does you probably don't need it, even if it's free :D

It converts single phase power (residential usually) to 3 phase power (industrial usually). Motors run more efficiently on 3 phase and you can easily control the speed, useful for things like fans, pumps, milling and grinding machines etc.
It basically allows you to use a machine designed for 3 phase power on a residential service.
There are several ways to accomplish this but a vfd is one of the best options and allows for varying the frequency of the output power to control the speed and torque characteristics of a 3phase motor.

We have lots of them in use in various locations in the machine shop running cnc mills, grinders, robots etc on 240v single phase power.

I'll take it if Richard doesn't end up needing it. Always a use around here for a VFD

VFD == Variable Frequency Drive. Regardless of the number of phases on mains powering a VFD, they pretty much all are designed to drive a three phase motor for at least two reasons. One is that 3 phase induction motors of the same HP are actually cheaper to build than a "split phase" motor (e.g. one that uses an external capacitor and runs on single phase power), another is that driving a split phase motor slower than it's design speed is terribly inefficient and produces much less torque that it could at normal speed.

The "variable frequency" part is how a VFD allows you to run a motor at significantly reduced RPM while maintaining near normal torque. AC induction motors normally run slightly slower than the rotational speed of the stator windings which is always an integer fraction of the line frequency. So a VFD is very useful when you want to power something with an AC induction motor over a wide range of speeds. The also allow you to control the rate of acceleration and deceleration when starting and stopping.

Some VFDs (typically ones rated for less than 3HP) can be powered from single phase mains with the caveat that they are less efficient that way. All of the larger ones require a three phase supply so the single to three phase conversion is just an extra feature of the lower power models.

I don't need it, but am curious where you bought it. I used loads of Delixi brand VFDs when I was doing work in China. They're well built for Chinese gear and reasonably priced.

I hadn't seen one in the US, where did you get it?

I think you can buy them on Alibaba.

Thanks guys I get it. There is more to running a machine shop than I knew. (Of course there is more to most things than I know. )
