Hey guys, I need to buy a car for my daughter. We really like the Lexus GX / LX, and would be open to a Toyota 4 Runner or Sequoia. Want to spend $15k or less. Anyone have a gem laying around?

I'm also very interested in finding another Mercedes 300D... I've owned six of them... I'm weird like that!

I can’t help with the Lexus/Toyota. But I love the 300D. They come up on Bring a Trailer occasionally (although they’re quite pricey). There will be 300Ds driving long after everything else has disappeared. One day I will get one: make mine a TD wagon.

A decent LX is going to be more than $15,000. The GX could be found but it will be fairly high mileage at that price point. I’ve had several Sequoias, and they offer a lot of bang for the buck. All mine were from 2002-2007 models. 479k miles and finally quit, 300k and still going, 280k and still going. The fourth I gave away with about 250k miles. None required any major maintenance. The one with 479k only had timing belt and serpentine belt changed once at 220k. Also had a few 4 runners. Great cars too. I drive an LX with 186k miles. Could sell it tomorrow for $20k. I’ve had offers.

Camry’s are often a better bargain than the Lexus or Toyota SUV’s. At a $15k price point that is where I’d look. Have owned and enjoyed Camry’s more than once, both used and new.

My 2003 4Runner is still rattle free. Don’t be afraid of older 4Runners.

I just sold a 2006 LX with 250k for $15k

I have a white on grey 146k mile 2006 GX470, all stock in GREAT condition advertised for $16k right now. Could do $15k for a quick and easy sale.

PM me a phone number and I'll send pics.

 We have 2 of them. One is a 1995 with 320K and the other one, our airport car in MT, is a 1998 with 250K.

Just traded in a 2011 Sequoia 4WD with 255,000 miles on it, plus damage from being struck by a deer to the L rear door and quarter panel. Got 9K for it like that. It was mechanically sound, good tires and battery.

Wrote a check for $23,000 to ger a clean 2015 Sequoia 2WD. That was a good deal at the time.

What can be bought now for $15,000 is not encouraging.

I buy 4Runners for my coast cars. Used to be able to get 97s for 2500. They can sit on the island for 4 years and still run. We’ve tried suburban, Ford and Chevy trucks, etc. The just start and work. Always pay the little extra for Limited.
