Just what every home, lodge, hunting cabin or hangar needs. 6x6 Utah elk shoulder mount. We are getting ready for the retirement move and this one wont fit in the condo so it has to go to a good home. $800 (does not include shipping costs) We can discuss how you want to pick it up. It probably will fit in the barn doors of a Bonanza.

Now $800.

Gary, check with an interior decorator. Sometimes they are looking for heads.

Response to PM sent. FYI the antlers have a max outside dimension of 40 inches and the dimension from tip of antler to base of mount is 72 inches. It is a majestic mount. Perfect for the stone fireplace in the great room.

I am not sure. I never tried. Those that know more about taxidermy can chime in.

Seems like a good way to screw it up but I’m no taxidermist. Then there is the expense to
“Re-install” the antlers by another taxidermist at the destination. It’s an art.

There are really bad mounts out there

This one looks well done.

I have seen elk mounts that have removable antlers. They are held in place by a pin. Not sure about these of course.

Hey Gary,
I have friends that buy and sell these all the time, unless someone really wants your mount it isn't going to sell for your asking price. Please don't take my words as negative, just being honest. My wife has bought several African mounts lately (because she doesn't believe me when I tell her I will go there someday and get them myself). She paid less than $2000 for 9 different animals. One of them was a gorgeous Cape Buffalo, a Sable, Blue Wildebeast, Hartebeast, and several others that are not the usual African mounts. If the mount was taken by you there is emotional attachment. There will be none of that with anyone else buying it. Realistically mounts are never an investment and you will never get your money out of them unless you get them for free. All the mounts my wife bought were never picked up from the taxidermist, we got them far below the cost of mounting them. Elk are very common, if it isn't over 300" then they are a dime a dozen.

Maybe look at donating it to your local fish and game to display in their offices, state park, police station or other places where it could be enjoyed by many. Might help with the sting of giving it away.

Wes, thanks for the feedback. I truly understand the market for taxidermy is definitely in the eye of the buyer. Whether I am able to sell it or not isn't going to affect my financial bottom line. If someone offers a reasonable price then they will be the proud new owner of a beautiful mount. If, when the time comes for our move it needs to be donated or simply go in the trash can, then so be it.

I see you do some very nice high end home building out there. Nice gallery on your website. I am also sure that if one of your customers asked for an elk mount to grace their vaulted ceiling great room you would charge them for it and not just say they are a dime a dozen and let them have it for nothing as a donation to them. There is a market value for just about anything.

Always good to have feedback and information on options. Lets see what happens in the market. It is the same as selling homes, you just need the right person with the right need and a deal can be made.

Yeah, don't throw it away........ just isn't the right thing to do. There's a hundred guys with hangars that would love to have one in the hangar because their wife won't let them have one in the house.

Of course where I live, buying a mount would be considered "cheat'n"

I kid.

Gary,
Definitely don't throw it away, it will sell, it may be for less than you expect is all I am saying. Put it in front of the right buyer and it will sell for whatever they are willing to pay. As a hunter and builder I see plenty of mounts, some are taken by the home owner and some are purchased by decorators. Decorators will pay far more for it then a hunter, at least the hunters I know.
