FREE- about 50 slides taken by Dick Proenneke 50 years ago of life around his cabin in Alaska. A family friend who was an avid hunter and fly fisherman passed away recently and we found these tucked away in a drawer. They look very nice with bright colors and it seems a shame to throw them away. PM me if you want them.

Very cool. His self-filmed documentaries are incredible. If anyone hasn't seen them, they're available free on YouTube. Here's one:

The slides have been spoke for now. I thought there might be a number of people here who would appreciate them and indeed that was true.

Thanks all for responding.

Thanks again, Dale. They are going to a good home. I am going to try to see if I can get my old slide scanner to work. If so I'll make digital copies available to anyone who wants them.

I'd certainly be interested in digital copies- thanks for doing this!

Just an update. I did get the slides, and thanks again Dale. As yet I haven't been able to find my old Nikon slide scanner which means it probably found it's way to Goodwill some time back. I have ordered a Nikon ES-1 slide adapter for my Nikon macro lens that will allow me to copy slides and is the next best solution, but it's on the slow boat from Japan as the only place I could find one was on Ebay. I didn't get a tracking number for my order so I have no idea when it will arrive. Ebay is estimating 2 months, but I certainly hope it doesn't take that long.

The slides are Kodachrome which is great news as this is an archival quality emulsion. This means that even though the slides are over 50 years old, minimal degradation has occurred and I should be able to extract digital copies with very little post processing required and the colors should be very nearly as Dick would have viewed them all those years ago.

The bottom line is it may take a while for me to get these scanned, but I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the update Mike and glad they are in good hands.

Here is the link to the album which contains all the images I found. There were two boxes of slides. The first box contained 21 slides of all Kodachrome which appear to be from the original slide film. I haven't gone through the second box yet, but on first look it appears to be duplicates made of the first box.

I copied these with one of my full frame Nikon DSLRs and a slide copying attachment to a macro lens. At first I experimented with my Nikon 60mm AF-S 2.8G Micro Nikkor lens, but got better results from my 55/2.8 AI-s with 32mm of extension tubes. I used a constant 5500K led light source and processed them with Adobe Lightroom. The basic format of 35mm film roughly translates to multiples of 8x12, but I had to crop them slightly differently for each one to remove the corners and rough edges so the format may vary slightly from one image to the next.

The slides were in reasonably good condition. I found a few scratches and fingerprints and some of the dust/dirt didn't come off with air and a soft brush, so I left it and removed as much as was prudent with post processing. The colors from the original Kodachrome were left as close as I could get it, but I did correct for exposure where I could. I suspect the slide film was taken with his Exakta VX IIb or his Olympus OM-1. It appears to have been developed in 1974 from the date stamp on the slides.

Since Dale gave these to me for free I don't want to sell these images in any form and I'm not in that business anyway. The album below contains relatively low resolution images because I don't want anyone else selling them either. However, if anyone wants prints made from these I do have much higher resolution images and I can drop ship them at cost from a photo processor. Before I do that I'd like to have some prints made myself to see how well they turn out.

At any rate I found them very interesting and provide a nice glimpse into Dick's world during that time.
