Introduction I reluctantly list this truck for sale after realizing a Double Cab will be a better fit for me long-term. In the last year I've performed numerous upgrades, maintenance, and service as though it would be my forever truck. Hoping to find its next caretaker here, someone who will appreciate all the recent work in getting it sorted. Otherwise I'm quite happy to continue enjoying it now that it's almost exactly how I want (minus having larger back seats). It would make either a great daily driver for someone or a nice work truck to have on hand whenever you need one. If you know Tacomas you know the current mileage is merely a midlife milepost.
Recent Service/Maintenance The truck has received regular oil changes in the year I've owned it along with extra work including replacing some leaking valve cover gaskets, replacing a torn CV boot, replacing the front brakes, replacing all TPMS sensors, refinishing the wheels (in handsome matte black) and rebalancing the tires, among other work. I added two Falken Wildpeak A/T tires to match the two that were already on it. Several things the prior owner probably deferred but I have had done, which should go a long way toward peace of mind.
The engine has started right up every time, not left me stranded once, and I've put almost 15,000 trouble-free miles on it in approximately 12 months' use as a daily driver and my only vehicle. It's been sure-footed in heavy rain and snow, surprisingly comfortable for daily use, and the quality-of-life upgrades especially the CarPlay head unit have made its cabin an excellent place to spend time on the road.
And the big one: NO STRUCTURAL FRAME RUST. I bought the truck after inspecting it for frame rust and after having an independent mechanic inspect it also, who concluded it was merely surface rust. Immediately after I bought it, I had the frame inspected by an authorized SafeTCap installer and frame repair specialist (MK Performance in Joliet, IL), ready for potentially major repairs. After inspecting it on their lift, they refused to take my money and told me it needed nothing other than a surface treatment and coating, because the frame was in great structural shape. So that's exactly what I did: I had a Ziebart shop apply rust eliminator and rust protection coating last year before the winter. This has dramatically improved its appearance and should provide years of protection (but I still recommend annual touch-ups).
It has no check engine lights, no service lights, no deferred maintenance, no TPMS light (that's rare!), and the A/C blows ice cold. The 4x4 system worked perfectly last winter and was used multiple times in snow. The only thing I'm aware of is my shop recently recommended resealing a slow, minor wheel hub leak within the next 20,000 miles, but it needs nothing at the minute. The same shop also confirmed it has no stored codes or outstanding maintenance items as of June 26, 2025, which is the last time we checked it. It just got a new oil change and is ready to go.
Included Items and Recent Upgrades The truck will come with a color-matched Leer bed topper (that I had repaired, replacing the worn-out door struts and locks, installing a clear LED brake light, and installing a very convenient button-operated LED interior bed light that illuminates the bed at night), a set of TRD-branded summer floor mats, a set of all-season floor mats, and numerous original parts I pulled for cosmetic/quality-of-life upgrades including the original steering wheel/air bag/clock spring, original Toyota radio, original headlights, original taillights, and the aftermarket grille it had when I bought it. I only replaced the steering wheel (with the correct OEM Toyota model) to get steering wheel radio controls (thanks to Toyota prewiring for them, this was a plug-and-play upgrade). I replaced the yellowed original headlights with a more modern LED setup that has performed nicely and was professionally aligned. I replaced the rear taillights with the 2nd gen post-facelift "clear" brake lights simply because I prefer that look. But if you disagree with me, you'll have the originals to put back on. I replaced the lame aftermarket grille a prior owner installed with an original OEM Toyota style grille, complete with Toyota grille badge. I added front-wheel mud flaps and window guards from WeatherTech. The backglass with sliding window is new, installed just last year, because the old one got cracked. I also had the radio antenna mount rebuilt since it was left loose by the prior owner. I even sent out the compass/outside air temperature ceiling-mounted display for repairs, which works perfectly now. In short, I've pretty much run out of things to fix on the truck at this point.
There's also a new Alpine head unit with CarPlay/Android Auto (wired only, but you could add a wireless adapter), plus an OEM-style backup camera installed in the tailgate handle (no stick-out-like-a-sore-thumb license plate frame camera here). There's a fore/aft dash cam system from Cobra hardwired into the truck that works seamlessly. Almost all of this is reversible should you want to go back to a stock look, which will be easy since I'm including the original radio and dash kit with the sale. There's also a SiriusXM Onyx portable head unit with a mount wired in to the head unit's auxiliary port I will include if you'd like it (the subscription is currently inactive).
Cosmetically, it does have a few dents and dings around the exterior, as you'd expect for the year and mileage, and the tops of the fender flares are fading from sun exposure, but no show-stoppers. There's a dent in the rear bumper to the left of the license plate. Inside, there are some cosmetic scratches to the door cards and the rear (my guess is a prior owner's dog scratched it up). Also a few cigarette burns (but there is NO cigarette smell, I got rid of that with several odor elimination treatments.) These cosmetic things bothered me when I looked at the listing photos before buying it, but in regular daily use I have not even noticed them. I had the driver's seat cover replaced, since it was torn, and I have a replacement for the passenger seat (which has a small cigarette burn) that has not yet been installed but I will include with the sale. Going back to the exterior, friction from the Leer topper rubbed some of the paint at the top of the tailgate all the way down to bare metal, so I had the entire tailgate repainted this month, with a protective tape applied to help prevent that same damage from happening again.
I will include the aforementioned original/removed parts, a binder with all of my service records, the original window sticker, and a full tank of gas. The Tractor Supply storage box in the back is NOT included, but it can be yours if you meet my listing price and ask for it. I'm willing to deliver the truck to any nearby airport (KORD, KMDW, KIND, KCMI, KBMI, KMKE, or smaller airports by mutual agreement and convenience). Happy to arrange a prepurchase inspection at your cost within a reasonable geographic area, or I will work with a traveling mechanic of your choice. I also would like to use the KeySavvy service ($198 fee) to handle transfer of title and escrow for our mutual convenience (and issue you a temporary tag for driving it home).
Summary I've put a lot of work into this truck that can't be easily replicated at this price point, and it has a better recent maintenance history than the random Tacomas you'll find on dealer lots. My only remaining complaint? I don't like the Falken tires, they don't ride as smoothly as I'd prefer at highway speeds, so I was planning on trying a different brand at replacement time. Other than that I struggle to find things to gripe about. In summary, it's a very good example of a 2007 Access Cab (with the desirable TRD Off-Road, 4x4, and towing packages) that gets regular compliments on how nice it is -- including from my mechanics.

Made a few small corrections and edits to the original post, which are italicized.
And I realized I neglected to more clearly show the swapped steering wheel and the SiriusXM Onyx radio, which are depicted in the attached photo.
I forgot to mention some other items (and I'm sure I'll remember even more later):
1. I have three genuine Toyota keys (two of which are brand-new, freshly recut by a Toyota dealer just last year) and two keyless entry key fobs.
2. I replaced most of the interior light bulbs with LEDs. The climate control panel does occasionally need to be tapped to get the backlights to turn on. I have not pursued this further because a few taps has always been all it needs. One of Toyota's few quality control missteps. Climate system is not affected; it's purely the backlighting. The panel is lit by two bulbs: One is currently LED and the other is the original incandescent, since that seemed to work, but you could experiment with replacing the remaining incandescent with LED also (I will include the bulbs if I still have them).
3. I replaced the climate control selector knobs with the round ones you see in the photos. Pretty sure I still have the originals, which I will include.
4. The truck has LED two-color fog lights: when they first receive power, you will get a standard white light that pretty much matches the projector/LED headlights. Turn the fog lights off and back on again to switch to yellow light. Continue power cycling to swap colors as desired.
5. The replacement headlights are (or appear to be) sealed projector beams that are extremely effective. Only the U-shaped LED "bar" will illuminate if the parking lights are selected, but it is not particularly bright on its own. I had my regular shop professionally calibrate and adjust the headlights.
6. The replacement passenger seat cover matches the replacement driver's seat cover. I am willing to arrange for the same shop that installed the driver's side to also install the passenger side in connection with any sale at actual cost (appx. $100). Or, you can also opt to have heated seat elements and control switches installed at a total cost of appx. $700 for both front seats, according to a previous quote by the same shop. (I was considering doing that, which is why the replacement passenger's seat cover has not yet been installed).
7. To the extent not specifically mentioned above, I will include all of my parts inventory and spares for the truck. Whatever I still have, you will get.

As a 1st Gen Tacoma owner for 2 years, your work modernizing and sorting out all the prior owner deferred items is awesome. I rescued my 1st Gen from a salvage dealer who got mine nearly all sorted out but I did a lot of the types of things you did to mine as well. Yours would have certainly been a candidate for me if it had come up 2 years ago. GLWS PS: Love the “Access Cab”! Mike

Still think about your E46 sometimes too...

I was trying everything to figure out a reason I needed a "spare" 4wd truck, but couldn't. I've had two double cab Taco's since they were introduced, a 2001 and 2012, and they were both fantastic trucks. Toyota, FTW! Well done to the buyer!
