Gallagher Aviation now has in its inventory a wide selection of LED beacons for Barons that have the teardrop beacon on the rudder and I can also help replace the belly beacons on Barons and Kingairs. The teardrop beacon commonly found on the rudder of 58 Barons and some 55s needs to be weighed correctly to be a direct replacement to ensure proper weight and balance of the rudder. For the top of the rudder I now carry the 9072414 (5 hole mount) LED beacon ( https://www.gallagheraviationllc.com/WA ... _p_62.html), which comes in all red. For the belly beacon I carry the 9085204 and the 9085203 (8 hole mount), which are all white and all red respectively. The 90852 series are not required to be weighed exactly like the 9072414 is. These lights are FAA TSO approved. https://www.gallagheraviationllc.com/LE ... _c_28.html <-- Website Link 1-833-425-5288 <-- Call/Text 513-401-6495 <-- Call/Text/MMS gallagheraviatonllc@gmail.com <-- Email me here

James: Thank you for the info on the LED beacon. As I read your post, I take it that I must remove my present oscillating beacon, weigh it, and if it weighs 2.25 pounds, I can do a direct replacement. However, I suppose that I would have to re-calculate a new weight and balance on the aircraft if the old beacon is not the same weight. Is that correct? In your experience, do most of the oscillating teardrop beacons weigh 2.25 pounds?
Thank you,
Tom

Tom Hi Tom, Yes that is correct. Or if it has a part number of 01-0790044-57 or 01-0790088014 it will have that 5 hole 2.25 lb weight to it. I have seen on one occasion where they took the OEM beacon out, installed something totally different that had a different weight, balanced the rudder, and then when the new owner got it we discovered the issues. I was able to find the corresponding LED version so they did not have to re-weigh the rudder. James

James, I have a funny question for you. For replacing the belly beacon on a King Air… Is there a way to compare brightness to the original units? King Airs have flat black paint on the inner lower cowls to reduce glare from the original which wasn’t that bright. And then on a Bonanza I fly, the tail beacon was replaced with a Whelen LED and it’s so bright I turn it off flying at night. Our belly beacon in the king air is failing but if the LED is any brighter I’ll look into seeing if we can’t just rebuild it.
Thanks!

Hi Daniel, just my opinion, but for operating at big airports there is no substitute for the old-fashioned rotating beacon on the belly. That red arc making a circular motion on the ground around the plane, stands out better than any flashing strobe when it comes to something bigger potentially running you over.

I do like the old style grimes 2 bulb oscillating on rudder and belly. Yes the LED would be less power and no issue on motor

I just received three more of these Baron LED beacons. The 9072414 is the correct LED beacon for any Baron with a teardrop beacon mounted on the rudder of the aircraft. If you have a belly beacon, any tear drop with an 8 hole mount should work but feel free to reach out to me to make sure you get it right! https://www.gallagheraviationllc.com/WA ... _p_62.html <-- Link to website 1-833-425-5288 <-- Call, please leave a voicemail if I do not answer 513-401-6395 <-- Call/Text/MMS, please leave a voicemail if I do not answer gallagheraviationllc@gmail.com <-- Email me here
