Not a criticism, just curious. Short version - previous owner used floats/sending unit/gauges. I could have tried to ‘create’ the sight windows but the older fiberglass tanks really weren’t that transparent.

Got it. The sight glasses are susceptible to decay if not treated with a UV-resistant clear coat. Resin and raw fiberglass do not like sunlight.

I don't have a "thermos" style cap. Mine are flush but very different than those, which is why I asked.
