Is there any paperwork with it? I did a google search and didn't come up with anything. I would think there would be a blanket STC for all engines that use a 48109 oil filter but didn't find anything other than Capehart is no longer in business.

I am not able to use it on my plane because I have an IO-470N and not an IO-5X0. Sorry I can't help you on this one.

That’s too bad. I have the paperwork but ran out of replacement rings. Need to find someone using it currently.

Just reviving this thread about the bottom seal of the Capehart filter.
I was able to find all the orings except for the main seal on the bottom of the filter. The seal for the champion filter is almost a perfect fit except the champion seal is higher but a little narrower.

I met with Terry Capehart personnally in 1996 at Mena when I brought him 12 brand new CMI cylinders to do his Flow improvement work on all the ports. He had just come out with those oil filters. I looked at the beautiful machining and bought two of them @ 1 AMU ea. What I failed to realize was the safety valve design. Champion 48109's have a spring loaded safety valve at the TOP of the filter element. Any metal, chips, etc. is normally not on the top of the filter element. If your oil filter is dirty, or the oil is to cold when you engage the starter, the oil pressure will be higher than the spring tension on the check valve and it will open allowing oil to flow to the crank and cam.

The Capehart oil filters have the safety valve located on the very bottom of the filter. So any metal chips or grit will be laying around those bottom safety outlet ports. In my Baron and my V35B the oil filters were mounted vertically so that was a big concern of mine, especially with all the winter flying I was doing at that time.

Those Capehart filters were not on the market very long and I believe a lot of other pilots were as concerned as I was. I took them off my Baron within the first 100 hrs and through them in the $$-- can. I couldn't and wouldn't sell them to another pilot!

I did learn from his filter how effective a good super magnet on the outside of the filter helps collect any iron particles in the oil. Thanks
