It looks like I finally have a reasonable date on the completion of my IO550 that I am having built for my airplane. Putting on the market is my current engine that is in perfect working condition with high compressions. I have flown with this engine for over 600 hours since I bought the airplane and actually question taking it out of the airplane. Here are the details:

IO520b
2050 TTSN (1966)

600 hours since all overhauled fuel system, mags, alternator etc.

300 hours since honing the cylinders due to a bad ring - Compression is all in the upper 60's low 70's.

Gami injector and run smooth LOP

Burns a quart every 10 hours or so

Purrs like a kitten and Was flying up until last week when we pulled it for replacement.

This is a great option for those that want to keep flying but can't get an engine for 6-10 months. This engine is complete and is a drop and swap with exhaust included. It qualifies as a core at continental for 520 or 550, I just chose to go a different route. I believe the core credit is 19k or thereabouts.


Reduced to $7,500

We just did the subsystems. The engine has never been overhauled and still tests and performs amazing.

I know of an owner of a 1957 Bonanza with an IO520BB that needs one. He unfortunately just had a prop strike. I will forward this information to him. Since it’s not been overhauled since manufactured in 1966, does it have a heavy case, 7th stud, and VAR crank? He’s retired on a tight budget, so this might be an option for him.

VAR crank's made it into production in mid-1978. Of course my engine is a early 1978 model...

This engine is original with a non var crank, light duty case and no 7th stud. Purrs like a kitten. I had an opportunity to get into a 550, so between that and the long average length of flight made me decide to pull the engine. It would be a perfect engine for your friends scenario.
