If you missed it at Oshkosh, Whelen Aerospace Technologies (WAT) announced and released their new Parmetheus G3 PAR-36 landing and taxi lights. At Oshkosh everyone sold out of their stock of G3s because they were so popular. I got to play with these a little bit prior to the release and they are incredible lights for the money. Incomparable I'd say. They are 2.5 times brighter then the PAR-36 Parmetheus Plus series LED landing and taxi lights boasting close to 140,000 candela power for the landing light. They are even brighter than the WAT Parmetheus Pro. If you're looking for landing and taxi light upgrade, this is it. The G3 is compatible with both 14V and 28V electrical systems. I have them in stock and ready to go. They are $305 each.

Hi James! Which Aerolite model did you test in the comparison photo?

Hey Eric, I can't remember exactly but I do recall it was not their higher end one. I believe their best light they have is comparable with the Whelen Parmetheus Plus light. I did not test a Parmetheus Plus landing light.

How does this compare to the Aeroleds Sunspot 36-4000? I see it is about half the price, which is awesome, but how does it compare performance wise?

Here's a drone shot with the G3 on the top and the Aeroleds Sunspot on the bottom. Keep in mind for this test, the G3 was in the left wing and the Aeroleds was in the right wing.

James,

From WAT marketing, the Parmateus Plus is the same Brightness at the 10 min mark and actually brighter after? Why do they say that the G3 is 2.5x brighter?

Here is your first generation Parmetheus taxi light that you sent to me versus the new G3 taxi light. It performs very similar to the second generation Parmetheus Plus.

Hi Marc,

You are probably looking at the Parmetheus Pro. The Pro has outstanding thermal management characteristics built into the light. All high power LED lights can lose power and their effective candela if they are not adequately cooled. These measurements were done in a static environment in a lab. The Pro does better at cooling but the assumption is that airflow from a moving airplane will also help with cooling. AeroLED has atrocious thermal management. I stuck a laser heat gun and that thing was getting to 200 degrees on the backside of the lamp.

The second generation Parmetheus Plus only does about 40,000 candela power whereas the G3 does about 140,000 out the gate. The Plus is not featured on that chart.

If I am following along, the new taxi light will be A LOT brighter than my current one.

The Twin Bonanza group was hanging out at our usual spot by the approach end of 36 at Oshkosh, watching the early arrivals. Everyone had their landing lights on as they approached the runway.

One airplane turned final and we immediately noticed how bright the lights were on this bird. Much more noticeable than the hundreds of other planes we observed approaching and of course this was during DAY conditions.

As it passed in front of us, one of our group recognized the the plane and commented, “Well it figures, that’s James.”

Yes, it is totally better! I have plenty of landing lights in stock but just sold through my taxi lights but I'll have more later this or early next week. I have 15 more coming.

I wish I could like this! I own what I sell!
