This thing is pretty neat, BlackMax Engine Dehydrator/ dehumidifier. Keep your engine innards from succumbing to condensation, etc. this one is a nice design because it used an electrical condenser rather than having moisture absorbing pellets that you have to dry out or replace.

6 months old; works great.

$450 shipped to continental USA, it was $600 new

Curious as to how this connects..., do you have a pic?

Not sure what you mean by an "electronic condenser" but I'm not aware of any such device and I've been working in electronic design for over 50 years. Perhaps it employs a Peltier cooler (solid state heat transfer device)?

Yes and these work great. Lots of empirical studies that show how Well it lowers the engine moisture.

The breather tube exits the bottom of the cowling. I just remove my dipstick and insert it there so that I don’t have to crawl underneath the plane.

Good idea. Wondering if one could modify an oil cap to accommodate the devices breather hose? After flight, remove the cap/dipstick (Set aside) and then attach the modified cap. Make sense?

You could, but I'd recommend removing the filler cap and the dipstick after the flight. The steam you see is water vapour as a byproduct of combustion. When you first turn on the Black Max, it blows dry air. I use the dry air via the dipstick tube to assist with exhausting the steam. Afterwards, I reinstall the oil filler cap. By then, the Black Max has proceeded to blow warm, dry air into the engine casing via the dipstick tube.

Agree, I already remove the oil cap/dipstick after every flight.

So, I assume your suggesting to remove Dip stick, let hot gasses escape then install the De-humidifier after the engine is at ambient temp?

I remove both the dipstick and the oil filler cap after engine shutdown, and that allows the hot gasses to escape while I move the aircraft into the hangar (10-15 min). Then, I immediately insert the Black Max' blow tube into the dipstick tube to assist in pushing out any remaining, hot gasses. If I don't see any more steam, I reinstall the oil filler cap and walk away until the next flight. Btw, I also use an engine warmer and blanket year-round with the Black Max.

Here's a great read on what the Black Max can do for your engine AND what led me to using an engine heater.
