I am announcing the availability of Flaremeter, a display to help pilots achieve more consistent flares to excellent touchdowns. Flaremeter is based on a laser distance measurement of height above the runway. The sensor unit is mounted behind an underwing inspection panel. The display is a tiny LED-based strip that changes color and shape as the aircraft gets closer to the runway. It is situated on the brow of the glareshield below the pilot’s line of sight down the runway. Visible in one’s peripheral vision, it provides just enough additional information through color changes to assist in knowing just when to flare. I have found that it makes my landings more consistent in a wide variety of conditions. It’s especially helpful in poor lighting conditions, or on very wide or very narrow runways where height above the runway is more difficult to judge accurately. https://www.flaremeter.comThe instrument is FAA approved under the Non-Required Safety-Enhancing Equipment (NORSEE) policy and can be installed with a mechanic’s signature as a minor alteration. I am running an introductory special until May 1, with a $200 discount. For Beechtalk members, I am sweetening that deal a little more; use coupon code BEECHTALK21 and you will obtain an additional $50 off the Spring special price.
