We are proud to bring to market select Tanis Aircraft Products, specifically the THP3094-500 cabin heater. This is a great companion device to go along with your SwitcheOn and can be temporarily or permanently installed in your aircraft. I use the Tanis cabin heater as part of my pre-heating solution to include the engine block heater and engine cover - all powered by SwitcheOn. This ensures N11GG is ready to fly when I get to the airport. It has a 500W heating element, which helps provide a wide margin for the 15 Amp SwitcheOn and allows you to run other electrical devices without worrying about blowing a fuse or popping a breaker in your outlets. You can buy the Tanis cabin heater on my SwitcheOn page at: I have a new link for these cabin heaters. I like the idea of a permanent installation to allow a quick plug-in and go after every flight. Any idea where you'd mount one of these in a long body Bonanza? Hi John, I'd mount it on the firewall probably on the co-pilot side if you have room up underneath the instrument panel, aiming down is how I am thinking I will permanently install mine. You'll have to run a cord through the firewall to the engine pay to get to a plug or they can put a plug in the side of your plane. If you have an eligible Tanis engine preheater you can tie it in with that. The permanent installation requires a thermostat to maintain temperature inside the aircraft. I'll probably permanently install mine next year as I've gotten into way too many projects this year (all new windows, new floor boards, new audio panel, USB charger, new carpet, and leather restoration )

A couple of Annuals ago, I had a connection run through the firewall to an open port on my Tanis Engine Preheat System, as James describes, I then leave the cabin side of the Tanis Cabin Heater wire / connection coiled up in a side pocket on the co-pilot’s side when not in use. In the dead of KC Winters I leave the Tanis Cabin Heater plugged in sitting in the floor between the front seats on a small plastic cutting board - When I turn on the Tanis System, the Tanis Cabin Heater also starts, it has worked very well Now that I have a 4-Channel Switcheon, I’m considering plugging in the Tanis Cabin Heater separately via a 115v connection, and not running the Tanis Cabin Heater as long as I run the Tanis Engine Pre Heat System Given I’m a C182Q and I keep a Battery Minder plugged in through my Baggage Door, leaving a short extension cord just inside the Baggage Door for the Tanis Cabin Heater would be easy - I bought and trimmed a 4-inch thick piece of foam to place in the open Baggage Door to block insects or whatever in the Summer and hold Heat in during the Winter

Do I need the thermostat if I keep it portable ? Does the thermostat just plug in inline between the power source and the Tanis Cabin Heater ? Can the thermostat be portable also ? What’s the thermostat cost ?

Hey Mike,
Sorry I missed your reply.
You do not need a thermostat in your setup, I was just curious to see if you had one. The heater should put out enough heat to give you a 30 degree temperature increase in your cabin so in the winter, a thermostat won't provide you a lot of value. The thermostat can be portable. It costs $130.

I've had one of these for at least a couple of prior winters now, and really like it. I believe the quality (and related safety) of the build-components is higher than the mini-heaters I'd previously used, and I feel less anxiety running it unattended in the hangar. It's small, light and easy to travel with in the cold months. And it works great.
I've only used it in the hangar and in the F33A I place it on the front and center floor to get heat to the gyros and instruments and run an extension cord through the hinged pilot window to power it. I use one of the cylindrical neck pillows I picked up in an airport gift shop to fill the gap in the open window. It works pretty well and is fairly easy to set up quickly. A two receptacle remote switch allows me to turn it on with the Tannis engine heater or individually.
I had never even thought of hooking the Engine and cockpit Tannis heaters together on the one plug. Is there a Tannis wire to make that connection and be FAA compliant, and instructions?
One benefit I could see of the single plug solution would be simplicity of using it on the ramp at a remote field, my plug is easily accessible in a front cowl opening. And in the hangar it sounds like a super simple, single plug solution, and then use the thermostat to be an on/off or adjustable control, if that would work that way.
