James. Question for you and the group. I have the alpine aux STC and want it super bright for landing at night. I have used tractor lights up to this point on the mains. I also have the PAR 46 on the nose strut. Should I go all Prometheus Pro? I think they are all landing lights. Or should I get the brightest taxi light for the nose? I don’t know what/who makes that.

Any thoughts?

With the Alpine STC, a PAR-46 in the nose, and a PAR-36 on the nose gear, I’d just do all landing lights. With that size and amount of lights, you’re going to get wide coverage from the landing lights so at this point, you want to project them as far as you can. For your nose strut I think the Plus is better because of the thickness of the Pro. The Plus also has replaceable lenses and they get beat up over time. Here is a PAR-36 Pro snd they are thicker because of the heat sinks.

Does anyone know if the PAR36 Pro will fit into a 1976 A36 in either spots? Because of the thickness, I don't think it will fit on my strut or in my cowling.
I don't see the PAR36 Plus being a problem in either spot.
If anyone has any photos, that would be much appreciated.

The PAR-36 Pro will fit in both spots on an A-36 with no problems. I have outfitted several A-36s with dual Pros.

Hi James,
I hope my question is appropriate for this thread. I'm looking to replace a pair of PAR46 wingtip landing/taxi lights with LED lights. The current (incandescent) bulbs have 3 terminals, and function as both a taxi light and landing light, depending on which terminal the voltage comes in on. In other words, it's a dual filament bulb. Here's a photo:

Is there a PAR46 LED bulb that works like this? It could have 3 terminals (easy drop-in replacement), or alternatively, maybe it could just have 2 terminals and accept different levels of voltage or something. (The single cockpit switch has 3 positions: TAXI / OFF / LANDING). The application is an L-39 Albatros.
I found the Whelen Parmetheus Pro light, which on their website, is labeled: "PARMETHEUS PRO PAR-46 SERIES LED LANDING/TAXI LIGHT", so I thought I'd found what I want. But I called them and they said it doesn't work that way. It is either a landing light, OR a taxi light, but not both.

That's something I haven't seen before. The Parmetheus Pro and the Parmetheus Plus both have a power and a ground and I do not know of any other LED light out there that has a taxi version and a landing light version. What happens when you hit the taxi light, does one filament illuminate? What about the landing light? Usually what makes it a landing versus a taxi light is the type of lens that is on the PAR light.

Correct, when you choose "taxi", one filament lights, and when you choose "landing", the other filament lights. I think the different position of the filaments adjusts the beam a bit, and also the landing light is 135,000 candlepower, while the taxi is 13,500. Here's a quick video of it working, taxi first, then landing:

That is really neat! Is there a GE number for that bulb? The PAR-46 Parmetheus Pro emits around 240,000 candela power in a recent lab test that was done after 5 minutes of continuous use.

It's a Russian bulb (mine literally says "CCCP" on it). The part number is: LFSM-28-200-130. You can search that part number and find some info. There's an interesting post about it on a flight simulator forum: https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/124974-l- ... nt=2868973
The specs are: 28 volts, 200/130 watts (landing/taxi), and 135,000/13,500 candlepower.
The closest GE bulb i've found is a GE 4532 - it has three terminals, but the beam focus and candlepower are a bit different. The main reason I'm looking for LED bulbs are because it's getting hard or impossible to find the Russian ones!

Wow, that is really neat! Well I would conduct some market research but to the best of my knowledge there is no LED light out there like that. It sounds like there are two power connections and one ground so if you went to a WAT LED light you'd pull out one of those wires. LMK if you want to do a Parmetheus Pro. I think that's the appropriate light for your L-39.

I received more of the Pro in stock and they are by far the most popular LED product I have to offer. If you're doing an annual inspection, this is a great item to quickly drop in.
The Parmetheus Pro is one of the most desirable LED landing lights on the market and is a top seller amongst all the products that I have to offer If you are conducting an annual inspection, installing the Pro is a quick addition with minimal time to install. Less than a half hour to install and do the paperwork.
