"DeJoy has said repeatedly that the Postal Service is in a financially untenable position and needs to rein in expenses. This past week, it reported $2.2 billion in losses during the three months that ended in June.
Postal leaders want at least a $10 billion infusion from Congress as well as regulatory changes that would end a costly mandate that they fund in advance billions of dollars in retiree health benefits.
“Without dramatic change, there is no end in sight, and we face an impending liquidity crisis,” DeJoy told the Postal Service’s governing board Friday. "
"Retiree Health Benefits" - nice if you can get it. You can check, but on the Care Act bill, the US Post office got 20 billion in aid, as a gift, plus they got an undisclosed amount from the PPP... which I am sure is extremely high... They are very badly run, but I am sure the problem is not there...
They got a 10 billion dollar credit line and they most certainly were not eligible for PPP.

Let’s see. The US Government running a service related business that can only adjust its financial parameters by congressional edict. Add unions, civil service entitlements, political posturing etc to the mix. What could go wrong?

"Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said Thursday that changes imposed by the new Republican postmaster general “threaten the timely delivery of mail - including medicines for seniors, paychecks for workers and absentee ballots for voters - that is essential to millions of Americans.”
In separate letters, two Montana Republicans, Sen. Steve Daines and Rep. Greg Gianforte, also urged the Postal Service to reverse the July directive, which eliminates overtime for hundreds of thousands of postal workers and mandates that mail be kept until the next day if distribution centers are running late."
An ongoing debate whether this slowdown is to inhibit vote by mail initiatives.
There is no doubt that things have slowed. Priority Mail sometimes a week, personal mail box empty on alternate days... Problem is that USPS is bleeding red ink all over the ledger. Has been for years. Do we keep believing it will run forever or privatize it or????
The Postal Service is a service, not a for profit business. I find it bizarre that people have accepted this perceptual transmogrification as normal. No one asks for the Air Force to show a profit.

I wish this was posted elsewhere, so a "like" could be added. Quote: Cold beer in mailbox , delivery by 9am I used to be in a guard unit with a NY postman, who claimed he drank near a case a day from his customers. On an annual encampment that SOB drank my scotch... hard to keep up that need, I guess. On the subject, Univair shipped my tailwheel spring about a month ago. It still hasn't shown up on the tracking page.... ( the bushings came in a week though) USPS. Edit: and yet..today I checked and it said today is the day... not much tracking...

So Chase can send me a hat Priority Mail from Washington and it takes 5 days to get to Georgia. And still, the box I sent to Texas on the 29th of July is still " in transit" from Jacksonville, FL. Forrest Gump could have jogged it there and back himself in that time. Literally. I have not received regular mail since last Thursday. We get mail every day including Sat historically. This about on par with the cat pissing on the pillow to prove a point; Postal employees are pissing on Americans to communicate their discontent.
