I am getting close to finishing a single place Onex experimental and am toying with the sitting on a chute instead of making seat cushions (the seat without cushions is just a piece of aluminum sheet suspended from the front and back). Would either of these work like that? Are they semi comfortable to sit on? How often do they have to be re-packed and how much does that cost? Thanks.

I’ve never thought a parachute was actually comfortable to sit on, but we flew the Zlin with a seat pack chute and a sheet metal sling seat for a whole day’s worth of flying without complaining... so I’d say they’re alright. Personally, I’d take the backpack one and build up a custom cushion for your butt and go that way. Only recommended if you’ve got enough legroom because the backpack is about 3” thick and not going to compress, so it’ll shim you forward in the seat.

Repacking isn’t too costly, and I’d call any local skydiving place for exact numbers for you. It’s been too long for me to recall what dad paid for these repacks.

I have a L29 jet and we have the strong paracushion 602, you can add or remove cushion material. Dont get me wrong, its like wearing a backpack with a diapher on the bottom, but in flight, sitting, you cant tell its there.

Roughly what would be the minimum altitude you could bail out at with this chute?
