I have a very clean 496 that was removed from my A36 three weeks ago. It comes with the cradle, external XM antenna, remote hard wired power cable. Works perfect. I always used it hard wired so I have no idea about the battery life but after setting in my hangar for three weeks it comes right on. My price includes priority shipping to anywhere in the lower 48. XM weather and Reliable navigation doesn’t get any cheaper than this.
That is a glare from a light on the screen, there is no flaw in the unit screen.
Thanks, Frank

I realized that the avionics world has moved on - as it always does - I will always maintain that the 496 was probably the best and most bullet-proof portable Garmin ever built.

A fully-contained color moving map GPS moving map XM Receiver. It literally does it all.

I had mine for 12 years and it NEVER failed to work.

Robert, I agree. I seriously considered carrying it in my flight bag as a back up but I figure that with a built in GPS in my hand held radio, which I admittedly have no idea how to use, as well as my back up iPad, I would probably only be adding excess weight to my bag. I am not sure that it’s even feasible for me to back up my existing back up. I am also thinking that it may be time to part with my GDL39 3D that I also carry as a back up.

You have to admit though, for the minimal cost, the XM weather is far superior to the FIS-B weather.

Frank
