Not quite sure what to do with this engine. Removing it now. Has provided great, smooth
service since 1994. Removing it to install IO-550 per BT advice.

TTIS 4515 TSMOH 2787, Victor; TSTOH 2004 Victor. Crank standard; cyls 0.015 over.
For the record, Superior valves, guides, seats & pistons installed at top.

Airworthy condition; all but one cylinder > 74/80; that one 62/80 rings. Valves all look good. Burns about 1Q oil in 10 hours and oil doesn't turn black. Good analysis.

Has all accessories. GAMI injectors. Walker Air-Sep. Factory baffles. EZ Heat pad.
Exhaust headers, RH on its way out LH replaced awhile ago. Doesn't leak oil.

Have a number of inquiries so far. Buying it to rebuild seems to be the main interest. I'm not interested in parting it out yet. I did that with my first engine and while it was a good financial move, managing all the sales was a pain and something I'd not like to repeat. I can get a shipping box to send it in.

BTW, in the oil analyses done so far there has been no trace of bearing materials. I've been on alert for that.

And the BB is a drop in for other BA, etc. The case and crank are an improved design. I believe (but would have to research) that the case and cranks go together; can't put a BB
crank in non-bb case; there are radii on the journals that the others don't have. Will
inquire on this Monday.

Also the BB is not subject to the VAR crankshaft AD

Brain Trust,

Would this core be a good candidate to send to PowerMasters for a IO-550 conversion?

slight topic shift - Is a BA with a Non VAR crankshaft automatically not eligible for the IO-550 conversion? I thought that 550s get new crankshafts, so whether or not it's VAR isn't an issue?

I don't know anything but having been through this I think the BB is the heavy case and the BA is the light case and the crank depends on the last time it was opened.

No, I have a BA that will be converted at overhaul. Mine is the heavy case, and has the pad for the 7th studs, 1978 vintage. Some are not elgible. Divco can do the conversion at overhaul, and add the 7th studs. It's been a few years since I talked to them, but it seems like the 550 conversion cost of the case was only a few dollars more at overhaul.

Otherwise, AERO has the STC. The crank, connecting rods, cylinders, presumably pistons, and part of the fuel system are different.

I'm slowly collecting parts in anticipation for overhaul, hopefully this winter...
