I have several backup Garmin data cards that made it a lot easier to update the pair of 430Ws that were in my panel. It was also good to have them for the inevitable Garmin DataBase update problems that seem to arise all too often. They are listed for $250 to $300 on eBay and MyPilot. I am asking $150 ea. 4-Nav Cards 1-Terrain Card I also have a Garmin Update cable $40 and a Jeppesen update adapter $50. Attachment: IMG_1350.jpeg

It is a production change. -It requires a different programmer than the older one -It requires a software update on the GNS unit if the software is too old. So I suspect they updated the internal board on the chip and updated the encryption.

So then the silver cards remaining will work with more units because they don’t have the version 3.3 or better Garmin software requirement stamped on them like the orange nav cards.
The card programmer dongle shown in my photo worked with both orange and silver nav cards.

Garmin programmer will work for Silver, Orange, Terrain waas, terrain non waas. I don't know if it will work for non waas nav, but probably - but it has to be Garmin data (not jepp). Yes technically the silver card will work in more units, but if you are still rocking 3.30 Main SW you are badly in need of an update. That is 2010 era software.
