Do folks ever purchase used cylinders ? I did a top on the IO-470-C and replaced with Superior. So I have ECI cylinders and piston that I have no use for. If folks do purchase these, what are they worth ?
Thanks
Charlie

If subject to the AD, just weight of scrap. They cannot be re-installed when removed.

These were not part of the AD.

Charlie

I don’t recall and it was not handy to look up. So there may be some value. I suspect it is, at best, what the core charge would be for overhaul. I, and several others I know well, got bit by very short life on overhauled cylinders. There was not a significant difference between overhaul cost and a new cylinder, especially if you had to pull one and pay labor again. So we went new if a problem arose that could not be cured by lapping the exhaust valve in place.

I'm with Don. On a TCM engine if I have to pay for labor to pull them off and install them I'm putting new Superiors back on. I want as much life as I can for the time and effort I spent pulling and installing those cylinders. Overhauled cylinders are only on the surface marginally cheaper and even less so if you consider all the new parts you get which you don't have to pay extra for.

No idea on the value, but a place like Gibson Aviation in OK that specializes in used/ovh cylinders may buy them

If I were a betting man I’d guess it wouldn’t be worth your time to package them up and ship them….
