Do you know if the slaved HSI is a plug and play replacement for a non-slaved unit? Also, do you know how long it has been since it has been overhauled? I had one years ago and the OH cost exceeded the value of the unit.
Thanks. John

Yes, it can be used as a non-slaved unit, just leave the plug zip tied out of the way. It was overhauled by Global Tec in SoCal in 2015 and installed in my A36 as a non-slaved unit. It will have some precession if not slaved to magnetometer.

I thought that the magnetometer was incorporated into the unit. I could be remembering it incorrectly. The plane that I am currently flying has a non-slaved unit that works ok. Do you know what it would take to have it slaved replacing a non-slaved HSI?

I believe the Mag is stalled in the wing. To convert to slaved, you would need tge other components installed. With today’s technology it would be better both in cost and tech to go with some form of glass like I did with the G5’s or other glass.
