I have owned N37KB for the past 12 years and keep it hangared at KBDR Sikorsky Memorial Airport in Stratford, CT. This plane feels very much like a trusted member of the family and has taken us on some amazing trips, both commuting and cross country. It is going to be very hard to part ways but alas, times change and it's now time to find 7 Kilo Bravo a new home.

Please click the thumbnails below to open the full size pictures to see what this plane is about. There is also a Dropbox link further down in my listing to a large folder full of high-res pictures.

I have to say, in looking through the planes listed here and on Controller, I saw several planes that looked very nice but, and maybe it's just my familiarity with and fondness for this plane, I keep thinking that this plane has been just right for us and how comfortable I am with all the little details. If you buy my plane, I would hope it feels that way to you too. So please, look over the info below and reach out to me with any questions or if you'd like to become the new owner.

Prior to my ownership, the plane had been based in California and Colorado and, at least for the time since it was repainted in 2005, it has been hangared. The logs are complete and continuous with no damage history as far as I can tell. The aircraft has 6581 total hours as of 5/5/25 and the IO-520BA engine has 1271 since major overhaul (built up to the Superior Millenium book with a new VAR crank) by Air West Aircraft Engines in 2005. The McCauley C76 three-bladed propeller has 587 hours since overhaul in 2014 by Sensenich Propeller Service. The engine runs great and has D'Shannon baffles and GAMIjectors. This engine does have the Superior Millenium cylinders of course that have an AD requiring repetitive 50 hr inspections and removal at 1700 hours from installation or, per the AMOC, 24 years from installation (which would be May 2029). If you're thinking you'd fly the engine until it started talking to you, this would mean a top overhaul at TBO or in 2029. If you'd put in a new or remanned engine at that time anyway, then it should be a non-issue.

The plane was painted by SunQuest Air Specialties in Everett, WA in July 2005 in white with red and silver stripes with red leading edges on the wings. At the time I bought it, the paint was seven years old and I thought to myself it was new enough to look great and old enough that it would show any underlying shortcomings in prep -- well, it still looks great and the shortcomings never came so I hope I'm not over-selling how good it looks (but it looks great :-)). Yes, there are minor chips here and there but for twenty years old it is way better than one might expect.

The performance of the V35 still impresses me with true air speeds between 165 and 170 knots at normal cruise with a fuel consumption of between 13 and 13.8 gph between 3 and 8000 feet and a bit less at higher altitudes.

The avionics are straightforward, reliable and offer layers of redundancy. The panel has a traditional six-pack instrument layout with a vacuum-driven attitude indicator and directional gyro, an electric turn coordinator (that drives the autopilot), a Uavionix AV-20S (electronic standby attitude indicator/clock/G-meter/OAT), JPI 730 (color digital engine monitor with fuel flow), Garmin GNS-530W (WASS GPS/Nav/Comm), GTX-345 (ADS-b in/out transponder), Flight Stream FS-210 (Bluetooth communication gateway for the 530W, allows flight plan transfer from/to Foreflight and Garmin Pilot), Garmin Aera 660 (portable WASS GPS hardwired to 530W for automatic flight plan display as well as weather, traffic and AHRS display), and a rock-solid S-Tec System 50 autopilot with GPSS (roll steer adapter). Completing the panel are a King KX-155 Nav/Com, KN-64 DME, King KMA-134 audio panel and Davtron 903 DVOR display.

Weather and traffic are displayed on the 530, the 660 and on iDevices (I have Foreflight on my iPad and iPhone which, in addition to the wx and traffic can seamlessly send and receive flight plans to the 530). I can load an approach on the 530, leave it displaying the waypoints on the flightplan page, see the 660's color moving map with waypoints and own ship flying the magenta course line all the while viewing the geo-referenced approach plate on ForeFlight. The autopilot has excellent altitude hold capabilities but no glideslope tracking or attitude mode. That said, with the GPSS feature the autopilot will fly the lateral aspect of the approach with the needle seemingly locked in the center and all I have to do is click off the altitude hold and drop the gear when it's time to go down at the final approach fix and fly the glideslope needle. Very simple operational modes that keep you very involved in the flying.

Unlike some of the more "advanced" autopilots and panel setups, failure of an instrument, loss of vacuum or loss of electrical power all leave good alternatives. Lose vacuum or a vacuum instrument, you still have the standby AI and a fully functioning autopilot. Lose the electrics, you still have the vacuum instruments, your regular pitot static instruments and the backup AI and Aera 660 GPS, both of which have internal backup batteries. The nav portion of the 530 will fly VOR and ILS approaches as well as flying precision RNAV approaches and the nav portion of the KX-155 will fly a VOR approach (the radio is ILS capable but its CDI indicator does not have a glideslope).

Other upgrades include Cygnet dual yoke with custom carbon inserts on the control wheels, Rosen sun visors, LED nose light, Door Steward, front shoulder harnesses and a large rear baggage door. I have alternative weight and balance pages for one and both rear seats removed configurations. It only takes a couple minutes to remove or reinstall a seat and it opens up a huge amount of additional space if you don't need the rear seats for a given mission. Loading and stowing things like full size bikes or, one of my passions, kite surfing gear, is a piece of cake with the large baggage door.

Cosmetically, the aircraft shows very well with the paint done in 2005 and a pretty traditional wool fabric interior in good shape. A thick speed slope windscreen (3/8"?) and easily removable glare shield provide good access to the rear of the instrument panel. Both pilot and co-pilot windows are thick acrylic (1/2"?) for better noise isolation and have frameless opening inserts. The glove box has been removed due to deterioration so there's a small project for the new owner to tackle if desired.

The specs are below along with a Dropbox link that will take you to high res pictures of the exterior, interior, engine compartment and panel. I've also taken photos of the log entries that seem most relevant, happy to fill in any bits I've overlooked or take specific pictures if you want more detail. Please PM me to inquire and please include your email as that's probably the easiest way to respond. Also happy to discuss and answer your questions by phone if you prefer. Thank you!
