Thanks for the plug, Daniel.

Some people just don’t “get” Cubs. They’re truly amazing planes.

My earliest foray into the Cub world was probably no different than most, with the predictable question, “What's so special about a Cub?”

I could go on all day answering that question now.

They’re such amazing planes, simple, elegant, unbelievably capable, and pure joy to fly. I think anyone with a handful of hours in a Cub understands their magnificent qualities. And words just don’t do them justice.

New exhaust manifold delivered. I’m planning to install it in a couple of days.

Can you tell me please:
1. Does a 6 feet 1 inch 200 pound pilot fit ok?
2. How much weight would be left for fuel and a passenger?
This looks like a whole lot of fun for the money and I have always been more than a little fascinated by the history and stories of the Cub.
Thank you.

The C85 is the perfect match for the J3/L4, it's the engine I've got for my wagaero cub project. And just like this one, I don't plan to lug around the weight of any electrics but people should note that with John's plane on offer, with his -12 engine you have the option of adding an electric starter if you so choose.

Robert:

Disclaimer: I haven't weighed the plane. We probably should, soon. But here's some math that'll be pretty close.

750 lb. ASSUMED MGTOW
+400. TWO OCCUPANTS
+ 72. 12 gallon fuel tank FULL of fuel
________
1222 lb

MGTOW is 1220

As far as the height? I'm 5'10" and neither seat is a problem as far as headroom. In the back seat, you'd be fine. Front seat??
I'm not sure.

The back seat cushion is "abnormally thick" to accommodate the former owner, who was on the short side. Consequently, I sit higher in the L-4 than in my J-3. The foam is also firmer than my J-3. If you needed more headroom, it would be a simple matter to shave (particularly the) cushion(s) as needed, or replace the foam.

I personally prefer the higher position in the rear seat. But when I fly my J-3, I like the low-rider position.

You can't be an arthritic, and/or morbidly obese and expect to joyfully enter or exit a Cub. But you sound fit and (I assume). somewhat limber.

Suggestion: find a new friend with a J-3 and ask if you can trial fit the plane. I'll bet you'll get a ride!! We Cub nuts just can't help ourselves.

Jeff is 100% correct.

I have a particular blind spot to electrics, lights, radios, starters, or anything electric in a Cub.

Consequently, I fail to recognize the option on the -12 as a benefit.

But not everyone is comfortable hand-propping a plane. To me, it comes with the territory of Cub ownership.

But with the -12, it doesn't have to.

I've had my j-3 with an 85 for 20+ years. No electric and really never wanted one. No problem to hand prop if everything is set up properly. If i ever go broke it will be the last thing i sell

Hey Robert,

I'm 6'4" and 190 pounds. I was always totally comfortable in the back seat of my J-3. Before I owned it, I instructed in it, and routinely shoehorned myself into the front seat. That tooks some doing with learning how to hold your feet at an extreme angle to use the heel brakes.

The only think that might slow you down is lack of flexibility. The Cub requires some gyrations to enter and exit.

My benchmark for when I hang up my goggles is when I can no longer climb in and out of a J-3.

Bump for a lovely Cub that should have sold the day it was advertised.

There are a lot of less-than-stellar Cubs out there, this one is really, really nice and impossible to recreate for the price.

Good luck with the sale, John.

Wow, if this was for sale 2 years ago, it would be in my hangar.

What a beauty!!!

Daniel is spot on about cub flying. Easy to fly but hard to fly well. Master a plane like this and have a blast at the same time.

Beautiful airplane John!!!
