She’s a 1962 P-35. The TBO is 1700 hrs. We borescope the cylinders & do compression tests & this engines is still strong.

TBO on a IO 470N is 1500 hrs not 1700 hrs. you can check that with Continental. Your engine is already over TBO

That TBO is for units manufactured after 2012 where all engines got a 200 hr tbo increase. Was this engine manufactured after 02/2012 ? Any prospective buyer should call Continental with serial number and they will tell you the TBO.
The IO 520BB in my plane now has 1900 to 2100 hr TBO. I called Continental and they say it doesn't apply to my engine because to was manufactured before 2/2012. My TBO is still 1700 hrs. I'm just giving prospective buyers a heads up because these new TBOs don't apply to all engines and sellers are advertising the new TBOs.

1962 Model Year P35's were SN D6842 to D7066.

Your plane may have gotten an airworthiness cert in 1961 shown on the FAA paperwork but it is a 1962 Model Year.

I'll through my two cents in.... it's my understanding TBO times are recommended by the manufacturer.
So, I'm thinking if you're compressions are good, oil samples (if any) are good, and when you cut open the filter and you don't see anything unusual, you can go past TBO.
Right?

Nice looking airplane... BTW.

Marc, Absolutely, TBO is just a number. When selling an airplane an engine at TBO is considered a core, a run out, even if running well. It affects the value of the airplane.
Under part 91, you can fly an over TBO engine as long as its airworthy and signed off.
My engine has over 2100 hrs with a1700 hour TBO and is running great.
