*September Annual

Flies great and the performance with the PPonk is phenomenal. Plenty of grunt off the water or land, and the STOL lets you get nice and slow into short fields and waters. The new Scimitar is smoother and much quieter than the old Mac 2-blade 88” and the power is outstanding. Easiest taildragger I have ever flown- tracks straight and true. I live on a grass strip, and mostly frequent grass and snow-covered strips, so all the tires are excellent. As for damage history, like some of us of a certain age this airplane had a wild time in the 1970’s, with four events, the first of which was the Cessna pilot trying to deliver the aircraft.
Complete logbooks. Based in Minnesota for most of it’s life, though I believe it had a brief spell in Idaho. Flies regularly, times will change. It’s been a blast, but a distant new grandson has me hunting for a cross-country twin that can fly over really big rocks. Thanks for looking.

Why is it sitting on the grass wheels retracted?

Good Morning. When we get a big weed bloom at the seaplane base, we avoid taxiing into and out of the water, to avoid picking up a crap-ton of weeds on takeoff, or having to clean off those weeds taxiing up the bank. Occasionally adding to the problem is when the lake is low the wheels touch first on the mucky bottom as opposed to solid bottom closer to shore- can get stuck. At these times we use the picker, just like with straight-floats.

Recognizing the seaplane base the picture is taken at (Surfside, Lino Lakes, MN), I can answer your question.

Most of the planes based there are on straight floats, they have a "picker" machine that puts them in and out of the water. The ramp there is not the greatest for taxiing out on amphibs, plus the plane is lower for tying down / storage.

You can see the yellow "picker" in the distance in this picture.

Not to clog the thread with an off topic request(hey, it keeps it bumped to the top!), but, I want to see the picker in operation!

Neat airplane, good luck!!

Man that's too cool.

I was thinking "oof, surely they aren't going to lift that thing from the center of those cross braces, they need to be way more outboard" and then poof it extends!

Thanks for that- good idea. I've been trying but had trouble with the photo uploader there- finally used a different device and got it to work.

p.s. Hey Steve, I agree Cheri is a gem. Her Surfside Honey and apple jam are wonderful. I love the Surfside community!

That plane is phenomenal. The list of major big ticket items is impressive to say the least (engine, prop, avionics, amphibs). Super nice job.

Steve, you have the cleanest floats I have ever seen. You must wash & wax after every use!
