Unique control stick, 4 Seat, French built FAA certified(normal and utility), IFR biannual current, STOL Rallye with 220 HP 6 Cylinder Franklin engine.
I have had a lot of fun with this aircraft, but now my child is in graduate school in France. It just doesn’t get flown as much as much as I would like and is ready for the next adventure. Always a talking point at airports as there are a lot of Rallyes across the globe, but not as many in North America. It has been readily servicable and parts have been available for the airframe as needed from Dahler, formerly SOCATA.

That is a lot prettier than the Cessna and Piper trainers. Love the slats. What do you see for takeoff and landing distances? Cruise speed?

Thanks for the compliment. Its design grows on you!
Not a trainer. High performance with constant speed prop over 200 hp.
If you land with first notch of flaps it acts like a Piper or Cessna. If you are configured with full flaps and slats out it is STOL. With practice, about 500’ for take off and landing. I rarely flew it to that effort. When you are light, it is spritely with its large prop and horsepower.
Cruise at 65%-70% at 5000’ is about 130kts w/o wheel pants as pictured. With wheel pants about 5 knots faster, but they are not so practical with tire pressure servicing, snow and ice in the winter.

Thanks for the question. I have owned the aircraft just about 10 years. I have had all of the engine work that I have needed done locally and parts have come from various sources. The pistons have a steel sleeve that it replaced if you need cylinder work. Rings and gaskets have been available as well as piston assemblies in my experience.
http://www.southernaero.com/ has been an overhaul and parts source for the Franklin line of engines as well as company in Texas. There are a lot of smaller block engines of Stinsons. The larger block engines were used on helicopters and other aircraft of the era. In Alaska, a number of Cessna 170's were converted by STC to the large block Franklin for additional power. Those engines have come up for sale from time to time. Very smooth engine and the accessories are common. It is a classic aircraft that is managed well by an interested mechanic that is experienced in this era of aircraft.

Don't see a lot of these in the US! When I lived UK, they were more common. Always heard they were well built, nice flying planes.

As a past Rallye owner, also MS894A model, I found it to be a genuine HOOT to fly.

The low sill (elbow rest) and high canopy gives fantastic visibility.

Control sticks, and flap lever, have a high tactile reward.

The Franklin O-350 is smoooooooth.

The STOL capability makes any modestly smooth surface into a usable runway. More than a couple times I departed from short ramps and taxiways directly into prevailing strong winds.

The trailing-link gear is very forgiving. The nosegear is free-swiveling.

Get an experienced, aggressive Rallye pilot to show you what it can do. One of my Cirrus workmates called mine the "clown plane" because it was so surprising and nimble (and STOL, not like a Cirrus). Or maybe he was calling me the clown? :scratch: If you want to fly it like a Cherokee... get a Cherokee.

There is an active user group on Facebook - Rallye Aircraft, and Groups.io . SOCATA has modernized their support ($$$$), but other owners are also a resource.

Maybe I will own one again one day... not soon.

The engine overhaul was completed 8-03-1990. It is really smooth running as has been mentioned on the forum. It is a classic aircraft.

Had an opportunity to do an Instrument Proficiency Check this week in the Rallye and very nice flight to a local airport in NW Iowa KSHL. It is a fun airplane to see the countryside.

Saw this link on the Rallye page on Facebook, and thought the article pretty well written.

He gets much of the essence of the full-span slats. There is a good trick for landing that he missed - an assertive flair to pop the slats about the time you expect to drop. Takes a few practice tries...
