Aircraft: Bonanza J-35
1958 Bonanza Model J

Asking Price: $115,000.

For over a decade, I've been the proud owner of an aircraft that embodies the joy of flight, reliability, and a spirit of adventure. Now in my 70s, and despite maintaining a flawless safety record, I find myself grappling with insurance premiums that have risen over 50% – a testament to the times, not the pilot.

Prior to me owning the aircraft it was based out of Arizona. Its pristine airframe reflects the meticulous care it has received throughout its life, belying its years.

This is not just any plane. It's an instrument-rated cross-country voyager I've meticulously upgraded over the years. It’s been a reliable companion on numerous adventures, a testament to engineering that delivers both power and grace in equal measure.

However, there comes a time in every pilot's life when they must pass the torch, and sadly, that time has come for me. This decision wasn't made lightly; in fact, it's one of the most challenging I've made in recent years.

Don't miss out on the chance to own, a well-maintained, upgraded, and corrosion-free airplane.

Beautiful J Model, Ron. I really hate hearing stories about pilots in good health being squeezed out of flying account of insurance related age. Someone will end up with a really nice Bonanza in their hangar. GLWS

Very nice J model, and should go quickly.

I am 65 and have considered an upgrade from my 79 Tiger, but every time I think of insurance cost as I get to 70, it scares me and I take my finger off the trigger. I was recently quoted, $2800 per year for $80K hull on a 56 Bo. I guess it would only get worse as I age.

I'm 76 years old. Consider buying a simpler/cheaper airplane rather than quit flying. I've "downgraded" to a Beech Musketeer Sport 19A. Insurance $500/year.

Nice looking J model I have a part ownership of a very similar airplane. We added a IO550 this year. I like the speed the J models have. The fuel burn's is a bit higher but I do like the performance boost on takeoffs.
Sorry to hear about the insurance.. I am waiting for the day they tell me the same thing

FWIW, Avemco does not discriminate on age. Also, consider not buying hull insurance.

Really hate to keep hearing about 60 and 70+ pilots with lots of safe hours being forced out by the 35-55 yr olds with under 250 hrs who pull the chute! They take off in conditions they have NO business in and have the safety blanket to pull the chute and walk away leaving the rest of us to pay for the "mess" with increasing rates!!

Great looking plane and I am sorry you have to sell. Find yourself a good 182 and keep flying.

Indeed they do - it's just that their threshold for not underwriting senior pilots is higher than the traditional markets and in some cases can approach 80 which is great (provided the hull value of your aircraft meets their cap in valuations - which I think is around $325k or $350k). Don't believe me - Ask your 85 year old pilot friend with a Bonanza to try and get a quote from AVEMCO as a new customer.

Useable fuel for a J with aux tanks should be 53 gallons (17 each main, 19 total for the aux tanks). In practice the main tanks will provide more than the 17 before running dry. I believe the 17 number came from an AD somewhere along the way.

Imhave squeezed 21 and 22 gallons respectively into my 20 gallon tanks and have used all of the 22 gallons. Have gotten nearly 20 from the aux.
