2012 Epic LT

1170 hours AF and engine since new. Still flying

Not sure I need to explain much about what an Epic LT is, but here's the quick and dirty:
This plane is an incredible all around machine. High cruising speeds. Relatively low fuel burns for the weight, space, and speed. Excellent climb rate. 6.7 psi cabin pressurization. Spacious cockpit and cabin. Arguably excessive useful load. Excellent short field capability (thanks torque limiter).

It's a pretty comprehensive package, especially after avionics and some interior updates. Comparably, I think a better performer and comfier cabin than it's competitors. It's hard to explain what takeoff and climb-out is like in this plane.

This particular plane has many upgrades and is a late spec LT build with newer landing gear, new shape cabin door, and a rare particle separator.

When redoing the panel, new multi-port static ports were installed and plumbed appropriately to prep for RVSM certification. The plane loves flying above 30,000' and flying 6,000' higher on long range trips can stretch range by 200 nm in calm winds with minimal speed loss.

Please look into insurance if you're interested. That goes for any plane but it's a tight market for Epics in particular.

Please refresh my memory. Is this meant to make for a more seamless transition into hyper-drive, or is it merely to assist with re-entering the atmosphere?

I questioned (and wished for) exactly what you were asking. I emulated what the E1000 is using for de-ice. Take a look at them. They'll have FIKI without heated inlets. The idea being that the inlet is big enough to still allow air in, and in the worst case, the engine will breath through the particle separator.

It's easy to move up or down to avoid getting an ice mustache in this plane.

Great advice and by no means indicative of a knock on the airplane itself - but LT insurers (underwriting carriers who will insure the LT) are miserly - really only two right now in the space - IAT and Great American. Depending on your pilots quals it can be VERY expensive. Similar to the issues with the EVo and IVP turbine but at much higher hull value and much higher insurance premium numbers. Even the E1000 is experiencing a tough run with the insurer - I do know Epic is trying to get insurers onboard but at present there are only 2 and possibly 3 that might insure one depending on pilot quals etc.

Best to explore the insurability before you get too far down the vested time path.

Visible in pic of rear of cabin. I thought it was a chin up bar for pre-teens. :)
