1050 - 503 full fuel 102Gallons is what I use with safety margin. WB gives more but so does its reserve.

So the G1000 Mooney's don't use the GFC700 autopilot?

2007 and after use gfc700. Pre 07 was the stec 55x.

Beautiful plane. I had a Bravo for many years and loved it. The fact that you have WAAS is big because I understand that the upgrade kit is extremely difficult to impossible to come by now. Just out of curiosity, is the paperwork in place to allow a swap out of the Stec for a GFC 500 or 600?

No I checked before buying this plane and the 500 or 600 AP does not have STC for the Ovation or any newer long bodies yet. Supposedly in the works but -- who knows. Only the 700 can be done but you can't get it unless you find it used. I don't want a used AP. The S-Tec 55X is great in this plane and I only miss a few options on the Garmin and even forgot about it till you asked.

And yes the WASS was a journey & $ to get done. If you check these planes about 50% don't have the WASS but hide it in the text or say "great IFR platform" Reduces the value without and if you use it for IFR limiting for sure. This one now can be upgraded to NXI if someone wanted to but non-wass nope!

The early 2000s 182s are the same as well, using an autopilot other than Garmin. The 2004 C-182 that I fly uses a KING 140. However, I have always enjoyed the STEC models and have owned several STECs across various aircraft and found them to be solid and the manufacturer support to be good.

Nice Jayson. Had a O3 back in 2009. Great plane. Next one have you shared?

Actually, much less than 50% are without waas now.
Most of the 2008 and all after came standard with waas. The 05,06,07’s didn’t come with waas but were offered very favorable rates to upgrade to both waas and the gfc700, and lots of owners took the deal.
The stec is not a bad AP, I owned two mooney’s with this AP, but it is a rate based AP, not digital, it doesn’t have altitude pre select, and meanders a LOT more than the gfc700. Servo and computer failures are more common than the gfc, but I wouldn’t say it’s chronic, just worse by comparison.

The waas upgrade is still possible, but the gia63w’s needs to be found used in order to accomplish. It takes some searching but it can be done(I’ve done two).

The NXI is not available on the Mooney for an upgrade at this time.
Mooney says garmin is the obstacle, garmin says Mooney can.
When/if the NXI becomes available ALL g1000 mooney’s will be eligible, waas or non waas, because the NXI requires the screens be changed, and the gia63w’s are not compatible with the NXI, you will need gia64w units. My understanding is that all the other LRU’s will work fine.

The stec is a pretty big ding on the price for resale, but it isn’t as bad as the non waas.

Lastly, I’d take a used gfc700 over a new stec 55 any day.
