1979 R172 Hawk XP

N758AL Serial #R1722941
Continental IO360KB serial #356031 (2000 TBO)

Only 850 hrs total time since new airframe and engine
309 hrs SOH on constant speed McCAULEY prop

This has to be one of the nicest, cleanest and lowest time examples anywhere!

These very desirable XPs are getting very hard to find (impossible in this condition). They are very good short field performers and shine in high density altitudes. The fuel injected 6 cylinder has more power and runs smoother than the 4 cylinder siblings.

Price is 159.5K For questions or to schedule a viewing please call Norman Earle at 386-689-0244

-Long range fuel (aluminum tanks)
-Pilot/Copilot shoulder harnesses
-Wing strobes
-Pilot and copilot articulating seats
-Left and Right opening windows
-Tannis engine heater
-Rosen sun visors
-Soros fresh air vents
-Wheel pants
-Steps and handles
-Precise flight standby vacuum system

Mostly original avionics but all are working

-2 ARC RT 385A Nav/Coms
-ARC 300 Navomatic coupled autopilot
-Appareo Stratus ESG ADSB in/out w/3l kit
-Narco DME 190
-Standby altimeter
-Icarus altitude alerter

There is no damage history and the aircraft has complete records since new.

The top quality paint job was done in 98 but still looks nearly new as the aircraft has never sat outside. The insides of the engine cowls are painted and the aircraft has nylon washers under all of the stainless screws. It was painted with all access panels and screws removed and all antennas were replaced with new.

I knew the second owner that owned it for most of its life. He took very very good care of it and it shows. I am selling it for my friend that bought it a little over a year ago.

The aircraft is currently hangared in Somerset PA which is about 50 miles east of Pittsburgh. It is available for viewing there with appointment.

More pics

This aircraft is spotlessl nose to tail and wing tip to wing tip.

I can confidently say that it is corrosion free which is a term that I rarely have used,

It has just received a comprehensive annual and runs and flies excellent.

I would love to hear how a 43 year old airplane only gets about 20 hours per year on it.

The owner kept it mostly for the pride of ownership and maybe a bit of a status symbol. He didn’t need the money and was really proud of it. He owned his own airport in NJ and had an insulated climate controlled hangar home in Ocala Fl. He kept it until his health declined in his eighties. The key is that he kept it up and maintained it. It never was allowed to have dust on it.

He did annual it almost every year and flew it enough to keep it up. I thought he was going to cry when we flew it away. I had it sold for him twice a few years ago and he just couldn’t let it go. Frustrated the hell out of me.

I can relate as I have a similar circumstance and find that all too often that I have a truck and trailer full of crap to haul.

1.66 hours per month would pretty much do it...

It’s making me tear up a bit reading that. Why not keep it “until the end”?

Does it have the Isham upgrade; bringing the horsepower up to 210?
