For sale: 1955 Twin Bonanza C50. $39000
Very nice 1955 Twin Bonanza C50 for sale. I have owned this airplane for 3 years. It is an absolute gem to fly. Our mission (the retired Air Force Captain Uncle Don and myself) was to make this airplane a reliable member of the Twin Bonanza fleet. That mission was accomplished. It is an active, in annual, thriving aircraft. The past two annuals while in my care have been thorough. I have flown it all over the Midwest and it has never left me stranded. Multiple fuel stops, hot starts, cold starts, it fires up every time reliably and eagerly. Airborne it is incredibly stable and rigged well. Hands off and fingertip flying is the norm. Engines are mid time and run strong. Compressions are excellent. Props are 582 hours. It lands with ease. Gear and flaps are smooth. Brakes and steering are responsive.
Stats:
Total hours: 5132.
Mid time strong running engines Left: 797 SMOH Right: 637 SMOH
Props are original Beech 2 blade model 279 (No ADs). Left: 582 Right: 582
Annual due 8/22
Elt battery due 7/22
Transponder check due 12/22
New windows for pilot and both teardrops. All other glass was fine.
New engine hoses and spark plugs.
Engine oil changed every two months or 25 hours. All screens inspected every time. No metal
Carburetors overhauled in 2016 and function like new. They burn evenly to the tenth of a gallon. (26-28 gph)
Gearboxes: Left: 3/8” @ 48” Right: 5/8” @ 48” L 1/4” and R 1/2” at 30 inches per CofM guidance. (Dave McKee, GO-480 overhauler for 30 years)
Paint is good. We did a lot of work in that area.
Interior is very nice. Also a ton of work redoing sidewalls, panel, and refreshing carpeting.
Avionics are old: Comm 1: King KY 96A. Works. Comm 2: Narco 11A. Works
Nav 1: Narco 122 (?). Works sometimes. Nav 2: Narco 121. Works
Transponder: King 78. Works. Mode C also works.
Instruments are old: Attitude indicator works sometimes. I have a replacement if wanted. All other instruments work. DG works. It is an old barrel style. I fly using conventional navs and stratus gps to iPad and several other well placed devices. Currently it has a dual yoke. It sits low in the lap. I would like to sell it with a single throw over. It fits the pilot much better.
Flight controls are great. No issues or corrosion.
Fuel system: 180 gals. No leaks.
This aircraft is priced pretty low in the current market. This is because the previous owners did that for me to allow me to enter the Twin Bonanza world at a reasonable price knowing the aircraft at that time had needs. I’m doing the same knowing that the avionics, attitude indicator and directional gyro need to be modernized, a gear box and a heater may need to be overhauled in the upcoming years.
As for insurance for a new Twin Bonanza owner, the only disqualifying restriction in today’s world seems to be age. Most insurance companies want a certain amount of dual time in make and model. I can certainly help with that if needed. If you're quote researching and they ask…26000 hours and ATP/MEI.
The reason we are selling a plane we really enjoy is we need an IFR platform to make runs from MN to FL starting this month. The modernization of the avionics would stretch outside that time frame.
I have a spare engine for this aircraft. It is in great shape, all accessories, but no log book. GO-480 F1A6. $4900. The gear box on this engine is incredibly tight. 1/4” @ 48”
I also have a spare prop, original Beech 279 (no ADs) for this aircraft. It is in fantastic condition. $1900
