N7638Q is a 1972 Cessna 310Q. The 1972 model 310Q had a newly introduced rear window with more headroom and a larger windshield than the previous 310 models. Many think the Q model was the best of the Cessna 310s with the very reliable Continental 470s and still able to fit in a regular-sized hangar. N7638Q has been hangared in dry country, Sacramento, CA, and Tucson, AZ for many years.

The annual was just signed off on June 1 and the Director of Maintenance said that he maintains a number of 310s and has been in this business many years and this is the cleanest 310 he has ever seen. He couldn't find even a bit of corrosion anywhere, the spars are pristine and there are no oil leaks anywhere.

The panel is the showpiece of this airplane and was completely redone in February of this year. The airplane has had excellent maintenance throughout with engines that are mid-time and brand new props with less than two hours on them.

The useful load is 1,732 pounds.

The panel update includes an Aspen 2000MAX with ADS-B data displayed, synthetic vision on both screens, and Angle of Attack. There’s also a new PSE 450B audio panel, Avidyne 540, and SkyTrax 200 for dual-band ADS-B in. All three panels were custom made and installed in February as well.

Avionics from before the upgrade that remain include a KX-155 NAV/COM with ILS/KI-209 indicator, Garmin GTX 327 Transponder/Trans-Cal D-120 encoder, Garmin GDL 82 ADS-B Out with selectable anonymous mode, Navomatic 400A autopilot with recent replacement of the autopilot roll actuator and overhaul of the autopilot controller, WX-900 Stormscope, JPI EDM 760 Twin engine monitor with EGT, CHT, oil temp, OAT, alternator voltage, and USB port.

It has GAMIjectors, Brackett air filter, Whelen LED lights/strobes, and the Landing Height System.

• WX-900 Stormscope
• JPI EDM 760
• Artex 345 ELT
• LHS (Landing Height System)

Additional Equipment:
• Redline Aviation Sidewinder tow
• GAMIjectors
• Brackett air filter
• Whelen LED wingtip and tail lights/strobes
• Huge baggage door and wing lockers
• Push to talk on each yoke
• Factory optional 100 amp alternators vs. 50 amp
• Boots
• Hot props
• Ice plates
• Alcohol windshield de-ice
• Heated pitot
• External power receptacle
• Rosen sun visors
• Pilot and copilot shoulder harness
• Cleveland wheels and brakes
• Dual landing lights
• Three-point strobes and rotating beacon
• Stainless steel cowl fasteners

Miscellaneous Maintenance:
• The left engine major overhaul was by Custom Airmotive in Tulsa. The right engine was remanufactured by TCM.
• The heater was overhauled in 1999 by Aircraft Heating and Electrical. It was overhauled using a ceramic combustion tube, which delays the need for leak-down tests until the heater has been operated for 100 hours. I rarely have the need to use the heater, so it has only 6 hours on it since the overhaul. The heater also has an updated air switch, which closes the repetitive AD.

Damage History:
• The nose gear pushrod failed in 1979, resulting in a nose gear trailing landing. The current engines and props were not installed then.
• There are light hail dimples and some hangar rash.

Exterior:
• The airplane was painted in 1986 with DuPont Imron 4296U White base with 7502U Brown and B8560A Tan stripes. Since then it has been touched up in various places and the stripe colors were changed to PPG Denim Blue and PPG BMW Titanium Silver. The stripes were changed from 2010 to 2015, doing a portion of the plane at a time.

Interior:
• The interior was done in 2009. The 5th and 6th seats haven’t been reinstalled, but they were recovered with the same fabric and leather trim and are included.

I fly the airplane regularly so times are subject to change and I generally do so with ADS-B in “anonymous” mode so it will not show up on FlightAware.

Thank you, it is a great airplane. I had a nice S35 Bonanza but with a commute I was doing three days a week, over very inhospitable terrain I decided I wanted a twin. I wanted to transition out of working at that location so my three days a week trickled down to three days a month and yesterday was my last commute there. I'll probably go back to a single.

Ken, that is such a high quality 310, I'd say it's a keeper regardless of change in mission. Not many truly great legacy planes out there and this certainly looks like one of them.

I've seriously considered keeping it and will if I don't find a suitable buyer.

As mentioned, I want to downsize airplanes. I will entertain trades. Maybe a Twin Comanche, Grumman Cougar or Travel Air in twins. Something like a Mooney J/K/R/S or maybe a Cirrus SR-20 in a single-engine airplane. Or maybe something else that's interesting???

I've had quite a bit of interest so far but nothing has been just right yet.

A few were interested in purchasing the 310 but one decided he wanted a Baron (I've had two, they're good airplanes but different from a 310), one decided he really wanted -550s and one decided he really wanted an R model 310.

Also, I had one buyer that said he wanted the 310 and I had a backup buyer at the time too. After a few weeks, the first buyer decided he didn't want it after all and the backup buyer had already purchased a different 310.

There has also been a lot of trade interest but again nothing has been just right yet. But I have learned some things. First, I cannot even get a quote for a tailwheel airplane so those are definitely out. Also, anything that I would want to do an avionics upgrade on is out too between the long lead times getting components and good avionics shops being booked out forever. My local avionics shop said he might be able to squeeze me in in August . . . 2023!

Not 100% but there's a strong possibility that experimental may be out as I remembered that Mexico no longer allows experimental and I go there 5-6 times per year with the Flying Samaritans. http://www.flyingsamaritansaz.org Potentially I could still go as a passenger. I'm still mulling that one over.

Cash is always good but at the top of my trade list today would be a Mooney, J or K. If a J, a Missile would be perfect. If a K, a Rocket ideally. They do need reasonable useful loads too for the Mexico trips.

And, "something interesting" is always a possibility.

Just wanted to give an update.

By "a quote" you mean an insurance quote? What's up with that? Is this a new insurance trend?

Good luck with the sale or trade.

Yes. Insurance said they wouldn't even give me a quote until I had 100 tailwheel hours. I have 5 now. I tried AVEMCO too.

Austin and I talked for a long time and came very close to an agreement. He has a very solid and well-maintained airplane.
