New for 2022 seems to be the rejection of new policies for retractables on turf fields. That's what I've come across in my hunt for insurance. My local airport has asphalt, but the turf is longer so we're dubbed a turf airport. Flat out denial by every single underwriter out there. And it seems to be turning up on Facebook that it's becoming common.

For a BE50 especially ridiculous. A T-Bone belongs on turf like a boat belongs in water!

Moving this to the top of the list, so that someone else will see and buy it and allow me to sleep at night.

Do you live on the dry side of Washington and have a wide hangar door?

Edited out a double post...

Sorry, clicked submit twice.

Maybe an indication of the state of my mind while thinking of operating this beautiful ship.

My highly enthusiastic buyer had some trouble with today's ridiculous insurance market. We agreed to forego the sale I wished them the best in working through it. As a result, Browie is on the market again.

Seems like a problem one of our resident insurance guys could fix. New multi pilots are going to get hit in year one, and perhaps will need mentor time but should be doable unless he or she is very very inexperienced.

Usually what this really boils down to is the 'buyer' wasn't willing to pay what the first year insurance cost was looking like - not that coverages weren't available. Yes the T Bone has a tight market with viable insurers but so does the Duke, MU2, Lancair, Epic, (insert any 50's vintage piston twin), etc etc.

I can count on maybe 1 or 2 fingers the amount of times I have had to tell someone - sorry insurance is not available at any cost! Again it might be a situation where that cost of entry on the 1st year's policy was pretty steep and the buyer simply wasn't going to bite and used this as a crutch in the prospective purchase. Pure speculation on my part but I have seen it time and time again in this 'hard' insurance market we remain in. Other than that I can't see a situation where insurance wasn't obtainable as the markets that will bid the T Bone generally speaking (1 or 2 of them) will 'transition' a pilot into the airplane.

Todd,

I’ll attach the pertinent data from the POH. This data doesn’t include the more “Lifty” Queen Air wingtip extensions. Folks generally say add 10% for turf to all these pavement numbers. On turf with the extensions I’d say it’s a wash.

Maybe someone out there has better data, if so please post. Brownie is quite a performer and certainly lives up to these numbers.

All those eligible suitors will be disappointed. Brownie has accepted a new proposal. I'm afraid she will loose her six gun and cowboy hat.

Well Brownie's current buyer has had a late financial hiccup, we've agreed to market her again to another suiter.

She goes into annual in about a week, so I won't be able to show her for almost a month. Anyway she's "on the market" again!

Unfortunately, there are going to be a lot of "unexpected financial hiccups" going forward.

I think you're right, but his was not market related.

No, definitely wasn't calling him out. Good luck with the sale. A lot of plane for the money.
