I glanced the other day at the newer a36 and they had a useful load of 990 lbs.
My 1968 36 has a useful load of 1535.5 lbs. I would imagine a lot of the fleet has updated avionics, engines, interiors and paint. I think your being unnecessarily restrictive in your search.

This is an amazing difference in useful loads for the same basic airframe. I wonder if anyone can give an account, either ballpark or specific, as to what accounts for the difference.

Some of it comes from the gross weight increase of a 550, tip tanks, vgs, and gap seals.
Tat 4000 lb gross weight.

Thats an awesome useful load but there’s more to that story. I believe the difference in basic empty weight between a ‘68 and a ‘2010 is about 300lbs. That newer a36 was obese! My 2019 G36 has a U/L of almost 1350#.

So, let me get this straight, your G36 has an empty weight of 2,300 lbs or am I missing something?

Edit
I think I figured this out. Was not looking at your profile until now. Your statement above said G36 but your profile says G36TN. Based on that my assumption is your GW is at or right above 4,000 lbs and your empty weight is 2,650 lbs, which makes more sense to me. Guessing about 100 lbs of that empty weight is for the TN system.

You got it. I wouldn’t personally ever own a NA G36. I owned a ‘76 NA A36 and while it was a sweet plane a G36 is freakin heavy. The only way it becomes useful is when it’s turbonormalized. Now you’ve got a single engine piston plane that will fly 190ktas, doesnt suffer too badly from density altitude and has Garmin NXI, which is amazing technology.

Thread drift… G36 bashing. I am completely satisfied with my NA G36. I have been flying for only 13 years and do not have decades of general aviation/Bonanza knowledge regarding make/model/ADs etc. I, nor my wife, was comfortable buying an airframe older than our children. I weigh 150 lbs, my wife 115. Just the 2 of us and sometimes dogs. Have flown Alabama to California 4 times without TAT mod. (12,000- 14,000 max over rockies). Rarely over 8,000 otherwise east of Rockies. Love the interior, A/C , G1000 features.
Now that I have gained knowledge about the benefits of an A36 with TAT I would consider this option. I would have to research an avionics upgrade to replicate the G1000.

Mea culpa. Didn’t mean to bash the G36 per se. Just not for my missions: Lots of over the Rockies and high DA airports. I love the G1000nxi, and would have no issues with a NA G36 if my missions were less demanding. But… I gotta admit I love the faster climb and cruise…
