Retractable Vans RV-4, 623+ total time (flying regularly) $65K.

I’m posting this for a friend who’s less comfortable with the internet, but can certainly vouch for him and the airplane, which has hangared next to me since 2003.

This is a unique airplane, an RV-4 modified to have retractable main gear. To the best of my knowledge, there were four airplanes like this built, at least two in the US.

It is unusual in that it has not only retractable gear, but a 200HP (angle valve) Lycoming IO 360 A1B6. The engine has a cold air sump and 4 into 1 exhaust. The prop is a whirlwind 151H installed new in July of this year.

The airplane had a nose over on landing late last year (2016) which destroyed the prop. The engine was torn down (by William Starnes in West Memphis, AR) the case was certified and yellow tagged by Divco, the steel parts were certified and yellow tagged by
Aircraft Specialties. Engine was reassembled with all new bearings, rod bolts, gearbolts, gaskets, and hardware. Engine was reinstalled and the aircraft annulled by Justin Spence at Ultimate Aircraft Services in Memphis (920-375-3650).

The aircraft has flown regularly since annual, including two round trips from Memphis to Oshkosh.

My friend who owns it acquired it from his hangar tenant and long term friend who has owned the airplane since 2003. The previous owner, a Vietnam era air force pilot and retired airline pilot, stopped flying after the nose over incident in 2016.

The airplane has flown very regularly for many years. To the best of my knowledge everything is working properly, and it has never been a hangar queen. The paint has is probably 15-20 years old and has been touched up in places. It’s a good looking airplane if not a show winner.

Looks like a very fast and fun airplane. William Starnes at West Memphis is a great mechanic, his name is in my airplanes' logbooks also.
