I would like to clear her, the airplane’s, name while I can. Tim, if you’d care to share what exactly you found so “misrepresented” it might help everyone else including myself. Engines were Total time since factory remanufactured, that means 0 time engines, built to new spec with lots of new parts. That’s as new as it gets. Anyways I hope Billy is still flying her and loving her as I did. Nicest baron you’ll come across.
My visit from Tim I remember him trying to find something wrong and the only thing he could say is that he thought my logbooks weren’t organized the way he would like them to be…… not sure what that means. I had all the history since new pretty well organized. I am happy she went to someone who appreciates her, and I do appreciate her being slandered on here. The local AP/IA as recommended by ABS thought extremely highly of the airplane as well.
As some others have said, I’d stay away from brokers, haven’t met one what knew what they were talking about. ABS is an excellent resource and find someone who has owned and flown one. Those are good resources. I may be totally off base here, but “factory remanufactured” is not a new motor. The listing should have been XXX hours SFRM. XXX hours SNEW would be for a motor that you picked up brand new from Continental. There is a difference, and that’s important for a buyer to know.

Continental only has and “recognizes” Factory New, Factory Re Built and factory overhauled.
A factory rebuilt has a used case and crank, everything else is new or overhauled . Factory Reman is just slang Okay, so my point still stands. Call it what it is, a factory rebuilt engine. Not new.

Factory rebuilt is zero time with new logs. Factory overhaul is original logs.

FAR 91.421 is what allows this.
(b) Each manufacturer or agency that grants zero time to an engine rebuilt by it shall enter in the new record-
(1) A signed statement of the date the engine was rebuilt; (2) Each change made as required by airworthiness directives; and (3) Each change made in compliance with manufacturer's service bulletins, if the entry is specifically requested in that bulletin.

I think the point is the factory doesn't do overhauls. Your choices are factory new or factory rebuilt.

Continental does do overhauls through a spin off company in Fairhope that does their overhauls. It’s a very good shop doing quality overhauls for the factory. Continental bought the old Mattituck shop with all the tools and moved it to Fairhope A lot of the old great mechanics at Mattituck came to Fairhope.
Fairhope, Alabama (USA): An authorized OEM service center (continentalservices.aero) handles specialized overhauls, maintenance, and warranty work for Continental engines.
