Matt, My side hurtz Why would you speak of making sense financially. Do you really think one can't buy this for 15k, put 7k into it and fly it trouble free for the next decade sometymz a post is so obvious green font is insulting to our meager intelligence. Small rant: People! Besides your name you should at least list what state you live in! I might wish to donate to the cause for the privilege of flying in this soon to be beauty ifin yu wuz to live anywhere close to my neck o the woodz.
I think that “small rant” might be for me. I’m in GA KGVL I updated it John

Does anyone know the history on the plane?
Not logbook detail but big picture. Just curious about how this story came to this point. My understanding and I may be incorrect, but a I believe that Matt mentioned when I spoke to him very briefly at OSH that the owner has been in possession of it for 50 years. Unfortunately, I don’t have many details other than that. I just think it would make a beautiful historic airplane if you provide it with a lot of blood, sweat, tears, polish, and of course a heavy consumption of money

Would love to see the progress unfold if you do it. Still there actually, I have been messaging him about it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/145229647827?m ... &media=SMSTrying to tie something together I see potential in it

That is a great price on the engine assuming you don't have to drive 1000 miles to pick it up.

There’s big money to be made here, by the mechanic, avionics shop, paint shop, interior shop, and every other person who touches it. And we may need JW to perform post annual flight test

Hey Matt, I feel like there are a lot of options they just don't all make sense financially. Some shops that come to mind are Biggs Aircraft, Blackwell Aviation, and Mountain Airframe. I also noticed you have KBJC tagged, if you wanted someone in CO Bob Brungard has lots of experience with Bo's. Also the logs are in my office at KGXY if you wanted to check them out Biggs has 2 unfinished early 2 digit projects already. One is his and another one for someone else. I covered the control surfaces on one of them at least 20 years ago.

just starting to get into airplanes, but have restore some 60s and 70s cars. how does restoring a plane compare to restoring a car? I would imagine it’s more complicated and probably required a certified aviation mechanic to do a good amount of it?

Everything except paint costs x10. Yes, an A&P mechanic has to look over your shoulder. Precision is vital; no "good enough for government work" attempts will do.

I have a hangar and some very capable people in warm springs ga. Brainstorming. Why don’t we do a BT. Fund me. We can set up an Llc to put it together two options get it airwothy and use it or get it as near to original vfr condition and donate to the beech heritage museum and everyone deducts their share of the llc. I not think we need to buy a parts plane. Would appreciate if Matt could do a cursory inventory to see whatbis missing. Looking at it, the biggest pain in the butt will be stripping and polishing.

Quick Update on S/N 6. I left GA on Friday to pick it up in ND. The plane is in remarkably good condition. The photo made me think it was painted grey with a maroon stripe. It was actually bare aluminum with a dust layer. As some point it must have been polished. No obvious corrosion found. Unreal really. Excluding the instruments most of the parts were found in various locations in the hanger. By Sunday the wings, prop and V-tail were off and loaded on the trailer. After securing everything else I left ND about 1:30 and arrived back home in GA last night at 1:00am. I do believe based on what I have seen so far that there is a high likelihood it can be made airworthy again. There was appx 12 gallons of clean 100ll in each wing and the fuel vent lines had little pieces of tape covering the openings among other little protective measures we all would do if storing the plane for awhile. The original owner Raymond Johnson passed away at 92 and was a career pilot according to his wife. From what I gathered and saw in and aroud the hanger he took good care of it. He just ran out of time. Thanks to Matt BAS parts for seeing this one as a opportunity to restore instead of part out. I will need help and input from the beechtalk family as I move forward on research and restoration. I will copy this and post it on the Beech Singles segment for updates and posting lots of questions that I am sure to have. For now I NEED SLEEP! John
