It is equipped with auto rudder bias, in the event of a single engine loss the GFC600 automatically engages and flies the plane taking care of the asymmetric thrust for you. You can shoot a coupled approach if you need to while it’s active. Safe glide is there because it can be. Regarding the 550’s, it was considered, the cost would never have been able to be recovered. I don’t have any seat time in a 550 powered baron to make a real world comparison, but when researching the 550 it seems most of the performance gains were in the single engine performance. Obviously there’s an initial takeoff and climb out gain, but once in cruise most people are pulling them back to the same fuel flow as the 520’s and cruising at the same speed. I figure most folks don’t need a STOL Baron and it spends the majority of its time in cruise. That coupled with the fact that I already had a pair of perfectly good 520’s made the decision pretty easy.

If I remember right, the answer is "yes, sort of"-- you can get the necessary prop governors (one sends the sync signal, so it's different than the standard version), wiring, and synchronizer, but you'd have to get them from a salvage yard and then find a mechanic who'd be willing to install it.
