What anger? I'm getting a kick out of the back an forth. But I think the person to person email should not have been put up in the comments. Out of context, it paints a false picture. I won't respond in kind...his emails to me will remain confidential. Comments should be fun and upbeat, don't you agree?
Thanks anyway.

I'll do it for you. Here's the only thing I ever sent you in a Private Message. I wish you would have replied "in kind" instead of the way you did.

:coffee:

I'm finding this endlessly entertaining. I hope this plane comes up for sale a third time.

Way back when a few months ago when he listed the airplane originally, in the first few days of the ad I was considering buying the airplane for my nephew to use and get his PPL. We would work on the airplane together and make a fun project out of it. That idea quickly went out the window when the seller was all over the place with the price. Thank goodness!

On June 29 when a new ad went up, I simply asked "Is this the same airplane?" and then instead of simply saying publicly "Thanks for asking, Yes it is. I've done some work on it since then", I began to get rude, threatening "private" messages from him. He keeps breathing life into this.

Here is his latest "private" message. He hasn't quite learned yet that anything he says rudely and any threats he makes aren't going to be private. The bright side of his rude messages is that potential buyers get to see the character, or lack thereof:

Why would anyone in their right mind subject themselves to a phone conversation with him?

If someone is a legitimate seller with a good, no-excuses airplane to sell, Beechtalk is a great place to sell it to a well-informed audience. If you are shady and the airplane has issues, this is the worst place to sell an airplane. That huge, well-informed audience on here is going to see right through it. Saying "go away so I can sell it to someone who doesn't need to know about the previous ad" doesn't build confidence in you or your airplane.

The only reason I have posted anything on this thread this week after my first question was to address his "private" messages in an effort to show how he treats people. You can agree or disagree with anyone, that's your right, but how you treat them in the process speaks volumes about who you are.

The maintenance alluded to in the ad came in at over ten grand. In addition, I had struts resealed, stabilator pivot bearings, and trim barrel bushings replaced. Now comes the annual, and I'm doing it high end at the Bakersfield Jet Center. It'll come in at around $15,000. Should I donate this to the new owner ?

I don't have a dog in this fight but I have bought and sold a bunch of airplanes over the years. The average buyer will assume that maintenance and annuals are considered to have been done on a continual basis. As such, they are assumed to be part of the current price. If $10,000-$25,000 was required in maintenance, that does not add to the value of the aircraft. Upgrades will change the value of the airplane but not the full amount spent, generally 30-50%. But I only see maintenance and annuals listed, not upgrades.

I very rarely do a prebuy on an airplane I'm buying. However, as others have mentioned I always do a "prebuy" on the seller . . .

This has been interesting/entertaining to me for more than the obvious, I own one of the old freight dog Lances as well as looking at buying the Bonanza pictured in this thread some years ago. In that case the discussions with the owner followed the same bizarre twists and turns with similar tone. I remember the plane having a low time engine but having little use for considerable time. When I mentioned the "seniority" of the engine I was told the engine was perfect and was sent an oil analysis showing all was well. An analysis done on oil with something like 2 hours on it... I was born at night, but it wasn't last night! Then there was the ever changing price... I quickly lost interest.

Ken's comment of doing a pre-buy on the seller really rings true. I have also purchased a number of aircraft without a pre-buy, many were litterly sight unseen other than pictures. The Lance was one of those planes. I did see the Lance in person, but the logs were being held hostage by a mechanic best described as a complete nut. The seller was the creditor that have taken the plane for non-payment. Great guy, over lunch we discussed what he wanted for the plane and I wrote him a check. He had the Sheriff retrieve the logs and I returned a month or so later to pick up the plane.

These old Lances are good planes, but are akin to buying an old cop car or taxi, they ain't no prom queen! More like an old pole dancer... I gave mine a good 4 month going over before returning it to service and it has given me 6-700 hours of basically trouble-free service over the past few years. I was lucky that mine came with a mid-time engine installed only a couple years prior, so my work concentrated on airframe. Having purchasing a number of airplanes from 135 service I always have to smile when I read about the superior maintenance these aircraft receive. As I ask people which car would you trust more, your personal vehicle or a taxi cab? And your car doesn't ever have to be seen by a "certified professional" like the cab does. The "taxi" in 135 air taxi has more meaning than most realize!

Jeff
