Is it safe to assume the cost to operate and maintain a D50-E well exceeds that of a 70s model 58 Baron? I’m in the market for a 55/58 Baron, but I absolutely love the look of the twin bonanza.

I’m in the market for a 55/58 Baron, but I absolutely love the look of the twin bonanza. The thing about TwinBos is that they’re halfway to a King Air in terms of size. It’s almost unfair to compare them to Barons. When you walk up to one, let alone sit in one, it has a big airplane feel. Barons and Bonanzas are “typical GA,” like C182s, Cherokees, and the like. TwinBos, while slower than Barons for the same fuel flow, offer a much more pleasant experience than typical GA airplanes. This particular one seems to need nothing and strikes me as a much better deal than a 70s Baron 58, unless you really need the extra 30 knots. I just crossed the US, California to NY and back, in my D50E. Three of us and lots of gear at 160 KTAS, usually at oxygen altitudes. A Baron would’ve shaved a few hours off, but it would still be two days each way. And I’ve flown mine from CA to NY in one very long day :-)

Where else can you set the autopilot, set an alarm clock for 2-4 hours, pop in the back and watch a movie or take a nap in the couch in the back, wake up, descend, and land.
That is a gorgeous T-BONE!!!

More like 15-20 kts vs my P600 55 which would do about 180-185 (booted). My D50E cruises about 165 kts at 8k. I've been in a few 58's that do around 175. Most of our trips are 300-400 NM so the speed delta isn't very noticeable... the space is quite noticeable though! Wes's plane is the one to get.

APPLES AND ORANGES.
Operations of a Twin Bo compared to a 58 Barron will be more expensive as: shorter TBO, slower speed, similar hourly fuel burn.
Comfort of T Bone is beyond any small twin engine aircraft.
If you like off airport landings then a Twin Bonanza will make you smile?
The air stair door of the T Bone makes for ease of entry and egress....ideal for older pilots and passengers

Word to the wisest
Often the most expensive aircraft example is by far the best value, especially if the bells and whistles are recently top of line.
Double value for newish autopilot.

STRETCH horizontally yup! Those little black squares on the ceiling of mine are Velcro patches to attach a privacy curtain. We carry a folding camp toilet for the long legs.
