Some of the worst ice I have ever had has been in the summer descending from the flight levels, and with a hot prop, boots and and ice plate, N589E sheds ice well. With that said, it's a piston single. FIKI in a piston single is to get out of trouble, not to go charging into it.

Username Protected wrote: In a plane like this, do you flight plan 16gph, or is it one of those "1st hour burns X, all subsequent hours burns Y"? Great question Jim. A rule of thumb is 20 gallons to get altitude and 100 miles downrange, (Although coming out of the Denver area with a heads start, I usually see more like 10 gallons to get to altitude). So, from sea level, you level off at FL210 with 100 gallons remaining. With a comfortable reserve, call that another 5.5 hours hours at 15.5 gph and 195 knots. You need a pretty stiff headwind for it to not be a 1000nm airplane, and with a push the previous owner used to do Denver to Florida non stop.

How does the Aerocruze 230 work? That's the first one I've seen in the wild.

I love the touch screen and easy visualization of what is enabled and armed. Not a lot of shops support it. So, I have all the maintenance manuals and the software to program it. The logic has both a control path and redundant monitoring path. The error logs are so complete that they were able to help me troubleshoot and resolve an open wire in the Aspen EA100 module.
