I would sell it to a WannaBe pilot if their $90K cleared with the title and escrow company and they brought a real pilot to fly it away or a trailer or tug. I used to say Tire Kickers need not apply but have a fun story....

Though one time I took a tire kicker, a young 22 year-old student pilot who just finished his engineering degree at Georgia Tech, and his girlfriend up. At the time I was 26. She wore jeans, a sweatshirt, and a brought a blanket because she thought it was going to be cold like the airlines. It was October in Savannah and the only HVAC for my TravelAir worked between 9,000-12,000. I knew he wasn't looking at the climb to 11,000 and cruise over the mountains of GA and TN like another tire kicker, an attorney. We kept it down low and kept it between KSAV and KTBR.

Somwhere at 2500 over the private field at Old Rail Road - off comes the sweatshirt. She said - I know you guys wouldn't mind and it covers more than my top does. Um, yeah but your bikini isn't pink and lacy. Somewhere his Elph has a roll of film with a picture of her with each of us on the ramp at KTBR and KSAV and a few with her flying the leg from TBR to SAV. She threw the sweatshirt in the back of the plane on purpose. She was a better pilot than he was! Then again, he was distracted. Unfortunately, I iced their other idea because I am an old fuddy-duddy but then understood what the blanket was for. Business is business... We landed at SAV, he took some pictures, and I handed her the sweatshirt and buttoned up the plane while they walked off.

Surprisingly enough, if I wasn't selling the plane, they would have been happy to go on a Key West weekend trip with me. Not surprising at all - I would have taken them and my girlfriend. Fun Kids. The plane went into Annual the next month, came out in January with new tail feathers, and went to TX on leaseback and then was bought by Stinson 6 months later. That was my last flight in 51R.

Sometimes the tire kicking " 'yutes " can be a trip.
