Just joined, and thought I would say hello. A&P at the Shelby County Airport (KEET) near Birmingham Alabama. Had a question yesterday about a Beech S/N TE-727 and a flap problem. Still don't think it's fixed, so here is the task:

-Pilot had flap fail. T/S to the two center flap switch cages & switches "trashed".

-Replaced the two switches.

-Flaps will extend to approach normally. They also extend to full from there.

-Flap switch to approach (middle of the three positions) and no movement.

-From full down position, flap switch to UP, flaps move as requested to UP.

-Problem seems to be from DN to Mid - no work.

General consensus here is a bad flap control switch on the dash -- any ideas?

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to viewing and participating.

Hi Mike

Welcome to BeechTalk!

Check the flap position switches under the wing on the left flap. They are part of the circuit that controls flap position and if all of them are not operating you will see just what you experienced. Do you have a wiring diagram and maintenance manual?

Thanks - and yes, the two center (not the up or down) switches and switch cages/roller assemblies are new. We replaced them and problem still exists.

We have the MM on microfiche and for this S/N the wiring diagram is in the MM (not a seperate wiring fiche like the other S/N.

Mike

There are 4 wing mounted switches that must function and be adjusted. I've attached an excerpt from my manual that may help. Let me know if that helps solve the problem.

Got it. With flaps UP, and exerting pressure upward, the flaps go to approach and have 14.4 degrees. From there, control switch to DN, have 30 degrees. Our problem is step c and since the flaps will not operate from down to approach, we're stuck.

Thanks for your assist so far.

Well, as an A&P, I ASSUME the Maintenance Manual is correct in it's procedures.

That said, my many thanks to Beech Tech Support -- there is a non-underlined, non-italicized sentence in the POH that states the flaps can't go from DN to approach without going UP first and then to approach (paraphrased somewhat).

Well, THAT problem is fixed. Thanks for your your help Don.
